October 27, 20188 yr Obviously this season has been a debacle. Its seems as though the program has been spiraling downward for 2 seasons though it wasn't as apparent last season. Can anyone advise what has caused this program to fall so far so fast? Is it all on Petrino? Papa John's curse? Bad players?
October 27, 20188 yr Petrino is not a particularly well-liked guy. He can’t keep assistants and can’t hire guys to replace them. Has made up for that by hiring a lot of his children and in-laws. The staff is unqualified and unprepared. This in itself is the biggest indictment on Petrino right now. His recruiting suffers because he doesn’t particularly like it and can’t keep his good recruiting assistants around long enough to help get the job done. Top example is Cort Dennison, who is now crushing it on the trail out at Oregon. From there, it just cascades further and further down the hill.
October 27, 20188 yr Author How were they good 2-3 years ago and not now? Did it just take that long for Petrino's poor management to really show?
October 27, 20188 yr How were they good 2-3 years ago and not now? Did it just take that long for Petrino's poor management to really show? The easy answer is that Louisville with Lamar was an 8-win team. Louisville without Lamar is a 2-4 win team. It’s a little deeper than that. For example, the offensive line last season was MASSIVELY improved from the season before. It was an asset a lot of the time, even if they still had trouble run blocking. Then four of those five starters returned and somehow it’s like they’re all brand new. A huge step backward for that unit that I just can’t explain.
October 27, 20188 yr Author Its unfortunate. I'm a UK fan and not even looking forward to the game against Louisville. Hopefully Louisville can get Brohm back in the city.

That’s been the oddest thing to me.
October 27, 20188 yr Recruiting has obviously been a big factor. I don’t believe that many, if any knew just how bad things may have been, which Lamar Jackson did a good job of disguising due to the player that he was. Without him, the last couple seasons may have been far worse too.
October 27, 20188 yr Mediocre coaching and players aren’t very good. Our defense is horrible, our QB play is horrible. Our line is VERY mediocre and struggles to get any sort of push. That’s a recipe for an aweful football team.
October 28, 20188 yr I agree with your point about the offensive line. That’s been the oddest thing to me. Same thing with the receivers. They were supposed to be all that. but they're dropping the few balls that get to them.
