Watching poker for years, there are several times I've seen them not fold because they were getting a greater return on their money than the odds of them winning. It's an risk most are willing to take for a chance at a huge payoff.

I guess that's why I'm not a professional gambler.

Yeah, why not. The chances of anyone ever setting up their family and descendants (i.e. becoming a billionaire) is, according to unconfirmed internet research, 1 and 3.7 million people. A 10% chance to do this is worth it. I will sacrifice and donate plasma a few extra times and go do some clinical trials to make up the $5,000 I might lose.

Count me in

Pro gamblers would take that chance every day and twice on Sunday, just due to the payoff on the bet being 320,000 to 1.

Yep, I’m all in on this.

Nah, not that I have $5,000 to throw away but there's still a 90% chance you lose.

The most I've ever spent on a chance to win was $100 at the old Carter County Bash (I think that's what it was called). We bought two tickets ($200) and ended up winning a $32,000 Bayliner boat. I was so poor at that point in life (just out of college) that I had to get help to pay the taxes. :lol2:

Nope, wouldn't try. I read recently that less than 40% of Americans have $1,000 to access for a true emergency. So probably 2+ of 3 people would have to take out a loan to even try.

I play 10-1 horses at the track all the time, and that's with unequal odds compared to the other entrants. I'm all over this play. The ROI v. risk is what it's all about.

Winning things on chance is just not in my bloodline. I could buy 99 tickets in a 100 ticket pot of luck and I would lose.

So I say no. That money goes to the mortgage so I won't have to pay the bank interest on $5k for 30 more years. Boring but efficient.
