6A Louisville - Jefferson County

Featured Replies

Out of Louisville St. Xavier, Male, and Trinity, one of these teams will most likely be in State Championship. St.X defeated Male and Trinity by 14. Male defeated Trinity by 14. Any of these teams that lost is capable of making up 14 points in a rematch, especially when getting injured players back. St.X is also capable of winning as well. Should make for an interesting 3rd and 4th round of the playoffs. I don’t discount another team sneaking in there, but most likely will be one of those big three facing a team from out in the state, in the 6A Championship.

One of those three teams will win 6A.

Is the Big 3 back?

Or are they just the three best 6A teams in a very down year?

The Big 3 will be The Big 3 until they aren't anymore. And one season doesn't erase the decades of dominance those three have shown.

Good question. May be a combination of both. I guess whichever one lands in Championship will be back.

I am surprised St. X was able to beat both Trinity and Male. But thinking about those games, didn’t have to do anything “gimmicky” to win, which helps for potential rematches to hang your hat on. The state champion will come from one of the 3, which I still say is ridiculous to have all 3 on the same side of the bracket.

I wouldn’t fully write off Butler just yet. That team can be dangerous.

A very, very down year. But one of these three will win it.

For Butler to win, they'd need one of the other three to have a bad game, IMO. If Butler and one of the other three play their best games, Butler doesn't win.

Very good point. I think they’re a nightmare matchup for some schools and you never know what could happen. That district may be one of the toughest. I wouldn’t want to be a 2 or 3 seed and have to play butler or male 1st round. Even manual at a 4 seed could present a problem as I think they’re playing some good football right now.

Manual will be tough because they play very good defense. If they catch your team on a bad offensive night they could win a game in the playoffs with just their defense.

I think Frederick Douglass has an excellent shot at the title this year.

You do kind of get the feeling if it doesn't happen this year it might not for a while, considering Trinity is rarely down, Male is always tough, and St. X is only going to get better with Wallace at the helm. Definitely a "strike while the iron is hot" type year for Frederick Douglass and a few others in 6A.

It is kind of interesting. Trinity has its worst season in memory and is still a contender for the state title. Male is a strong contender every few years. X will be a strong contender most years going forward (something they haven't been for most of the last 10 years). Yeah, I'd say if you want to take the title out of Louisville, this had better be your year.

The plus side for Douglass and some others is that X and Male are both in Region II and will eliminate one or the other. Trinity is in Region I and if they advance they'll play the winner of II. That means two of the Big Three will be gone before the finals. Douglass and Scott County (and Henry Clay, and the NKY schools) are all on the opposite side of the bracket, a much easier route to the title - you only have to beat one of the best, not two or all three.
