It is kind of interesting. Trinity has its worst season in memory and is still a contender for the state title. Male is a strong contender every few years. X will be a strong contender most years going forward (something they haven't been for most of the last 10 years). Yeah, I'd say if you want to take the title out of Louisville, this had better be your year.

The plus side for Douglass and some others is that X and Male are both in Region II and will eliminate one or the other. Trinity is in Region I and if they advance they'll play the winner of II. That means two of the Big Three will be gone before the finals. Douglass and Scott County (and Henry Clay, and the NKY schools) are all on the opposite side of the bracket, a much easier route to the title - you only have to beat one of the best, not two or all three.

They won't be 5A for long. Douglass is in the process of balancing out since they didn't have seniors the first year. Scott split but the way that county grows they'll all be back to 6A soon.
