5A #2 Bowling Green at #3 South Warren

Before the season even kicked off, this was one of the most hotly anticipated games in the state. The two teams split their two meetings last year, with BG clocking SW in the regular season and the Spartans stunning the Purples at home in the playoff rematch. Bowling Green (7-1) took one on the chin versus a powerful Warren Central squad out of Indianapolis last week. Can the Purples shake loose the cobwebs and dust themselves off in time to put their best foot forward this coming Friday? Despite BG being ranked higher all year, a growing contingent of fans believe that South Warren (8-0) is the better team this season. And they've had an extra week to prepare. Round 2 is no guarantee this season. The loser here will likely pay a visit to a surging Owensboro team in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

I think BG hast the best player in Vito Tisdale and he will be the difference. I’m taking BG in a close one.

I’m not sure how good BG is; yes they have the best skill player in Vito, but I don’t know if that will be enough. I’m going with SW in this week.

The best 2 SW wins IMO are a 36-14 win at 4A Franklin Simpson and a 21-0 home win vs Ravenwood, Tennessee.

I like South Warren at home in this one. They have one of the best defenses I’ve seen and the offense is the best they’ve ever had. South Warren is better than they were last year and they know from last year that they have the ability to beat the Purples. I’ll take the Spartans 24-14.

Hoping forecast changes (which it can) but currently calling for 90% chance of rain.

 

Regardless of who you think wins, most will predict this to be a “4th quarter” game. Wet field equals wet ball which gives greater chance of turnovers. Good chance that whoever holds on to the ball best, wins.

 

Several angles to take in this game:

* Can BG get ball out of pocket before SWARREN collapses pocket?

* Can Purples keep Harrison under 100 yards rushing?

* Can SWARREN slow down the Purples speed of getting into open field?

* Who wins Special Teams?

 

The list could go on and on. We know for sure that the coaching staff on both sidelines will try to call their best game plan so far this season. We know the fans of each team will be at capacity. We know the players will be amped. Games like this is what makes High School football the best, purest sport in the land.

 

BG was completely throttled last week. Not only do the players know it but they also know that everyone else knows it. Hoping it puts a chip on their shoulder and spurs them to play their best game this season.

 

Bucannon. BG QB, IMO, will have one of his best games of the season. I think that the loss to SWARREN last season hurt him more than the fiasco last week. I think Bucannon will be the difference along with a strong dose of Vito gives the Purples the edge.

I think SW is better than BG this year. I believe Lacy will control the line of scrimmage and not give the BG QB any time. I may be wrong but I just have a feeling that SW wins relatively comfortably.

Usually not (It's not needed), but I think they do run a clever set where he blocks for Bush when he's set up in the Wildcat formation. Very effective. He may in certain situations for this game though.

It all comes down to turnovers and if Bowling Green can control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. South Warren is dang good up front on defense and offense. That is their strength and what makes them so good. I think outside of that South Warren isn't that good. They lack speed overall, they run a very limited offense, they come out like a lightning bolt, but they don't seem to get better as the game goes on and if they ever got behind by more than one score I think they would struggle to come back.

 

The problem they create for teams is if you can't block them and they can block you then you're in trouble. If Bowling Green's QB is under pressure all the time he will struggle. And as good as Tisdale is, the OL has to help him out some and South Warren D-line is really good.

 

Also the question is how will BG respond after last week? Thankfully they came away from that game healthy.

 

This is a hard game to pick, but let's look at last year. Bowling Green put a running clock on South Warren in the first game. South Warren got behind and they were down, BG just opened it up and whipped them.

 

The second game, BG looked like it had its head up its rear end, they came out kind of stagnate. It look like they hadn't changed up anything as far as game plan goes. South Warren changed up a lot. Bowling Green played about as bad as it could and South Warren only beat them by a touchdown.

 

The forecast for this game means it's going to rain before and during the game. The field is going to be wet. It's probably going to be miserable for those of us in the stands.

 

The rain throws a huge variable into the game. If it were dry and I would say confidently that if BG plays well they will beat South Warren by 10-14 points. But with the rain I still say BG wins, but I am definitely less confident.
