My son who was on field said after game, Coach Beatty made Trinity players take the Trinity stickers off their helmets. Looks like he means buisness going forward.

 

When I first read this post I didn’t think much of it, just a proud coach sending a message to his young team. But as I thought more about it, I started to think how divisive this act may become. If this is a young team, then mistakes and loses will happen, but are the mistakes and loses because of a lack of effort and “want to” or are the loses because they just are a team that’s playing hard, but just doesnt have the experience to close out games yet? Just a little bit that’ve read about Trinity it seems there are some inexperienced players playing hard but going through growing pains, so is the coach doing his part in putting his players in positions to be successful? The helmet stickers work both ways, if he’s asking the players to remove their logos from their helmets as a sign that they haven’t earned them, then he should remove something symbolic of a coach to show he’s right there with them. If he doe not then it seems to say he has done nothing wrong and all of the loses are on the players.

 

Maybe it’ll work, he’s won a lot of games, but it may also back fire and cause more problems than anticipated.

It has been done many times. Its not new. Especially in programs with tradition. I don't see it as a problem to motivate those who aren't playing to the standards set before them, and I will be surprised if it doesn't work.

Which tradition rich programs have done this? I have not been around on that has or have I seen one is this tactic in the middle of the season.

The helmets say Pride, Loyalty, Discipline, Achievement. They don’t get them as freshmen until the team has shown all four on the field and in the classroom. If the coaches feel they are falling short, I’ll trust their judgment. They have earned it over many years. You are right, character is revealed through adversity. So this loss was too much for the greatest coaching staff? Instead of saying, me the leader of the best program in the state, I’ll get better, he decides to imply it’s the player’s fault.

 

Curious, which one of those four words are the kids not living up to to have their helmet stickers removed?

Every team in Kentucky would take the “flaws” Trinity has had over the years if it meant getting the wins, including Saint X.

One would think.

That Staff are the Coaches.

Everyone on here - are not.

They are paid to coach.

They are dedicated to it.

They've spent more time with those young men - than anyone else save their families.

 

I think we should defer to them and what they think is the best way to continue to run the program.

The results speak for themselves.

For reference, Luke Fickell, 2nd year coach at University of Cincinnati, wouldn't allow anyone to wear University of Cincinnati gear until they earned it. Let's not forget Trinity will be the #1 seed from their district in the playoffs so to roughly quote Mark Twain, reports of their demise are greatly exaggerated and will be judged by November record, not a non-district game in September.
