Why not? It’s all well in good to play a tough schedule, but when your teams only win is against J-town how beneficial is it really?

 

Did you think the schedule was a problem for last years team? I would assume not seeing how they did against it. Which they are two year contracts usually. So it's not like Trinity was really in a spot to change their schedule. So I dont know really why you are complaining about it. Unless you though they should have watered it down last year, to make it easier for this years team. Which would just be silly.

 

At the end of the day. Whole they have lost a lot of games. Most of the games they have been right there.

I have watched T for the past 15 years and I think the tough schedule helps. This team learns more from this schedule than playing down and it may not help them this year, its a young team, but it helps them over their High School career. Wheels haven't come off just got a flat tire. This is the best program in the state.

St. X Defense vs. Trinity Offense:

 

The St. X defense played a really solid game. Good pressure on the QB, fairly tight coverage on the receivers, good job of shutting down the screen game. Good job of stopping the run with the exception of a few plays. Trinity's run game is pretty good, but their passing game is so inept this year (am I really saying this??) that the run game is suffering for it. They were not able to effectively throw the ball downfield with any consistency at all. Part of that is a tribute to the Tiger Defense. Part if that is due to poor QB play by Trinity.

 

St. X Offense vs. Trinity Defense:

 

The Tiger offense struggled for most of the first half with the exception of the final drive of the half. It really helped them to get that score at the end of the half to establish some momentum. Some of the sloppy play was due to the typical nerves for this game, part of was due to a really good Trinity defense. St. X made some key plays in the passing game in the second half which allowed them to win the game. The Tiger run game was very inconsistent (and mostly bad) for the better part of the game. The passing game in the new system implemented by Coach Wallace is showing some signs of life. The run game must get better to be able to win games in the playoffs. There were several times in the game Friday when the Tigers simply could not come up with a key run when the situation called for it.

The punters for both teams were outstanding. In the first half, the St. X punter repeatedly pinned the Trinity offense inside the 15, which allowed the Tigers to dominate field position in the first half. The Trinity punter boomed the ball several times from his own end zone to keep the game. The coverage units for both teams were solid as expected. Neither team's place kicker was particularly impressive, which is a rarity for this series.

Which tradition rich programs have done this? I have not been around on that has or have I seen one is this tactic in the middle of the season.

 

No, it working makes it right. Sometimes kids need to understand they are not performing to the level of expectation and there is a price to be paid.

Very accurate analysis. X has struggled running ball all season against good opponents. I think the O-Line does a good job pass blocking but struggles in the running game. Defense has been good all season and getting better.

 

I saw Trinity QB West in first JV game and Jutz in 2nd JV game and I thought Jutz was best QB, seems Trinity is just young at that position.

I think it is more of a scheme thing than anything. The Tigers really need a short-yardage/goal line package where they are able to go under center with multiple TE's and/or lead blockers at times and they need to be willing to use it more. There were three 3rd-and-1's in the game Friday where they were unable to convert while attempting to run from the shotgun. That would have been bad when facing a typical Trinity offense, or any other good team for that matter, that could have made them pay for the inability to convert. The Tigers did go under center one time on 4th-and-inches and run QB sneak for the first down, so that at least have it in their repertiore to go under center for the QB sneak. If they are extremely averse to going under center, they maybe they could run a pistol formation with a lead blocker in the backfield similar to what Kentucky does. At least then, they could get their back running downhill with a lead blocker.

 

All in all, though, the Tigers are making progress from early in the season. They just have to come up with some better answers for situational football.

Yes the schedule comment is a subtle jab because the last 7 weeks it has been once Trinity gets to in state competition they’ll dominate...subtle jab because it’s annoying to hear week after week.

 

The comment about removing helmet logo is a fundamental issue I have with a coaching decision that has absolutely nothing to do with an outcome to a game. It’s a power move by a coach, nothing more and in my professional opinion a poor one. Coach K did the same thing with Duke basketball last year, nothing more than a power move, not a mind set to resolve a problem. Not talking smack, just think a power decision by a man who is a leader of young people. So if that’s talking smack then I guess I’m talking smack, but I’ll stand by my belief that what he did was a poor decision in leadership.
