I do think freshman football is a very good indicator of your talent level. It may be the purest evaluation of talent because coachable skills have not fully developed yet.

 

JV is not nearly as good an indicator because most of your really talented players aren't even playing JV. They are already playing varsity.

I was at the Highlands vs. Cooper freshman game. I definitely wouldn't call that crushing an opponent. In fact I would say it was more the other way around, to where Cooper's own penalties in the red zone and then and also a costly turnover in the red zone was the difference. I think even Highlands coaches would say they were fortunate to get out of that game with a win. However a win is a win and that is all that matters. I'm just saying that was one game I did see, and that was definitely anything but crushing any opponent.

 

I think Highlands, Covcath, Cooper, Ryle, and Conner all have nice young talent moving up from what I have seen and heard. It should make for a fun new 5A district over the next 4 years for those teams.

In my opinion if the JV QB was not a Junior but a Senior he might be the stater this year. It would be a interesting QB competition. However he is just a Junior so he has to wait his turn.

Just FYI, this year Highlands JV beat Beechwood 28-0 and the Freshman Birds won 34-20... I think you can remove the “maybe” as to the talent coming up at Highlands.

Nope, not at all. I was at the game and saw Cov Cath beat the Birds Frosh team. So this year the Birds JV have won:

Frosh have 1 loss to Cov Cath and wins of:

I'm not sure I'd change my statement that Birds underclassmen have been crushing teams this year. Yes, I recognize they lost a game though. I'm looking at a full body of work, not just one or 2 games.

Highlands is 4A they just choose to play up. I believe Beechwood is moving to 2A due to enrollment so the separation isn’t that dramatic.

It's ok @phantom it's easy to see there is no reason replying to him on this. He has an agenda and shown that his go to is to bring up jv scores. When it gets shown the Highlands freshman are talented but not crushing everyone as he stated. Or I guess by his criteria CovCath crushed Highlands freshman then.

Highlands has been dominating games in both the Freshman and JV level. Both teams are not just undefeated but crushing opponents. Who else has a bright future? I know Cov Cath and Highlands are both stacked right now with underclass talent (which is great for NKY football). Will these 2 teams be in a class of their own, or are there other schools who have talent coming up the next few years?

 

I did NOT say they were crushing EVERY opponent they played. Nor did I mention anything about Beechwood until that game specifically was asked about and I provided the scores for both games. Again, My post was about the general state of the TOTAL underclass programs. Highlands seems to be very strong in each class. As does Cov Cath. I know that for a fact. My question still remains the same, are HHS and Cov Cath the only schools with big talent in each class or are their others? If you are saying Beechwood has it, then AWESOME!
