Western Kentucky Moving up to D1

Featured Replies

The word is that WKU is dropping the 1AA and moving up to D1 in football...This will be huge for WKU, bringing in harder schedules bigger opponents and ultimately more money. I wonder when the upgrades will be made to the stadium???

The stadium plan has already been unveiled, and for what it's worth, it looks like it'll be a nice stadium. Too bad they'll never have the attendance to fill it. They can't fill the stadium now that they're a premeir 1-AA program, they won't do it as a mediocre 1-A.

What conference are they going to be in? Sun Belt?

Is there a link to see what the stadium will look like?

I heard about this some time ago. I would love to see WKU succeed as a D1 school, but that wont happen too soon.

I just saw a pic, on Western's website...it looks really nice. A $37 Million Renovation. wku%20rendering.jpg

This story is sort of like "Newport could be a sleeper in basketball this season." It simply keeps popping up year after year yet never comes to fruition.

Do you have a link?

Is there a link that says definitively that WKU football is moving to D1?

The official anouncement is coming at the end of the week, but why make an expansion if they weren't moving up. It will happen...

Thanks for the update. I agree that A leads to B.

I am not good at searching for links, but it was voted upon a few weeks ago to make the move.

That stadium looks pretty cool. I've only been to WKU once, and I'm assuming the larger 2-tier stands are the existing ones, and the other ones with the building and larger press box will be the new stands?

I wonder if the folks at Marshall would advise them otherwise?
