I have never seen a refereeing crew who huddled up for 5 minutes after every flag they threw. It was insane how long it took for them to make a call! There were definitely some interesting calls on both sides. Castleman’s hitting a defenseless receiver was a joke and is what probably gave the game to Corbin. That was a huge call on 4th down.. Horrible!!

 

I'm starting to believe that the officials are hearing the chatter and are paranoid about trying to get the calls right, which actually makes the fans on both sides question them more. It also takes away the rhythm of the game.

That was definitely a huge call in the game. If Beechwood has stopped them there then who knows how the game would have played out. Fact of the matter is Beechwood will learn from this game and be better for it. Logan played more defense last night than he has all year which told me Rash wanted this win bad. He maybe played 2 series of defense against Somerset and Lloyd. I think Rash wants to make sure when it comes playoff time he is still healthy and ready to play both ways when we get to the tougher teams in the playoffs. I am just glad Beechwood didn’t have any significant injuries coming out of this game always worries me in games like these. Hate to hear about Corbin’s WR hope a speedy recovery for him.

This is what I saw. I’m not saying it’s a penalty but Refs thought so. Ball was thrown high and receiver was stretched out reaching for ball and his head was jerked forward. I don’t think it was catchable ball but why did defender target receivers head?

 

It didn't appear to me that he was hit in the head, more like the defender put his helmet to his back after the ball went through the receiver's hands in the end zone. I wouldn't have liked the call if I were a Beechwood fan, but there was really no reason to even hit he receiver and take a chance on that call being made.

I was very impressed with the QB. He was the only one on Beechwood who had any success running the ball as well, really surprised me that Corbin shut down their running game.

This is a good point. When I came to this thread I was curious as to how long it would be before the referees were brought up. Facts of the matter are that referees in different parts of the state call games differently. It’s human nature. At some point we all have to get past blaming the referees for our kids failures and teach some true accountability.

Refs were fine and human. Had a few bad calls both ways. The one in the end zone on 4th down just came at a bad time, nothing malicious, but don’t give the refs a reason to throw a flag. Beechwood played hard and had a ton of guys going both ways and were tired. Beechwood also made too many mistakes, penalties and costly turnovers. The QB has a bright future but needs to get rid of the ball quicker. Guys are open when they break on the routes and the QB will get better seeing that. Corbin has a very nice team and coach seems like a classy guy. Good luck to both moving forward. Estep is a great athlete as well. Several times he could have been sacked and used athleticism to escape.

I am a big fan of Justin Haddix as well. He has taken Corbin to another level in his time there.

Corbin's coach said he thought Beechwood wore down in the second half.

The Beechwood defensive coaches did a very good job of mixing up their coverages and made the Corbin passing game look out of synch much of the game. Estep's big arm and ability to make something out of nothing created some opportunities for the Hounds, but Estep's inexperience at QB also showed as well. This will be a huge learning experience that I expect he will learn from and may pay dividends come playoff time.

The point is - threads like that don't get started out of the blue. There is a reason for it. There have been enough official issues in the past that it was a legitimate question before the game and after.
