I think it is fair to say that the top five in Class 3A have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. There could also be separation among the top five but for the sake of this argument lets consider Boyle, Central, Corbin, Belfry, and Lexington Catholic as the top five. The five schools listed have a combined record of 13-1. This, in my opinion, is a ranking of those thirteen wins:

4. Lexington Catholic over Ryle

I would agree with that. Of course Manual is 1-1 on the season. Truth is that it's too early to really tell what are marquee wins and what are not.

Otherwise Corbin beating Danville at home by 18 is a push to Boyle beating Danville at home by 17.

Now if Corbin beats Beechwood we might something to talk about further. I would put Beechwood ahead of Danville right now.

All of which even more firmly cements Boyle and Central's obvious status as the two teams who should be ranked at the top of 3A.

As of now I’d agree Boyle should still be #1 in 3A but I think the gap is closer then some thought. Their schedule is not that strong. If you combine all 10 teams record to this point they are under .500. Besides catholic on their remaining schedule I don’t think anyone can get close to them. Should be an interesting post season as always b

Until someone knocks off Boyle....they're #1 in my book. I think Central is #2 with Corbin a very close 3rd. Lex Cath appears to be improved over the last two years and IMO, the jury is still out on Belfry. The postseason road trips could prove to be the fly in Boyle's ointment....but I've not seen any real chink in their armour to this point. It's early. Their O-line will get better. However.....I don't think their depth is as strong as I originally thought. An untimely injury could put a lot of these teams...including Boyle in harms way.

LexCath hasn't played anyone worthy. Lafayette is arguaby the best team they have played so far and that isn't saying a lot.

Boyle County and Central should be the top two teams in any order. Corbin is better than I thought. We'll learn more about Belfry soon enough. LexCath at 4 or 5 is perfect IMO.

There have been exceptions, but as a general rule, Belfry shouldn't be ranked very high early in the season. They start slow, and are a work in progress. Coach will focus on doing the little things right and build on it, and hopefully have them peak in November. It is by design. Throw in a bunch of inexperience at key positions, and sometimes they will look awful early on, but will be a lot of fun to watch them develop during the year. It is among the best things about being a Pirate fan.
