Who wins this matchup? Paintsville will see how good they are this week after two easy wins. Frederick Douglass has posted two running clock victories over Wayne County and Tates Creek.

I'm eyeballing the outcome of this one pretty hard. In different ways, Pikeville and Raceland have given us an early glimpse of how good they can be. Now it's Paintsville's turn. If they can just keep it competitive/close, we might have to make room for a third team on the top line in the East.

Credit to the Tigers for taking on this kind of challenge.

My thoughts exactly. If Paintsville goes toe to toe with them and competes throughout the game that’s a win for later on and puts them on that line. If they were to beat a 6A on the road that puts them at the head of the table in my opinion.

I'm going to say FD by a lot.

This unfortunately will not go well for Paintsville. Too much everything on FD for them to handle. If they play perfect they may avoid a running clock until the 2nd half.

This goes to the "toughen up your schedule" crowd.

Say Paintsville gets clocked. Just demolished. Say a guy or two get dinged up. Say this is worst case scenario for them...

Is it worth it to have "played tougher competition"? I don't know that I think it is.

Sure, they don't need to schedule Fulton City. But, if they get run, will it have been worth it?

Thats a tough one Pi. The top teams in 1a year in and out play far tougher schedules than their counter parts. The biggest issue I see is depth. a middle of the top 10 6A team will likely have far more numbers and more impirtantly, quality numbers, than even the biggest and baddest single A schoolsz if kids get banged up, it could derail a single A schools season (see Hazard the last few years). But at the same time, scheduling is not always as easy as many think. This very well could have been the best bang for their buck that Paintsville could get. Not like FD is a perennial power and really have a ways to go to prove their relevance in the 6A class. I dont however, see this going in Paintsvilles favor. I think they will be tough early on, their OL and DL are huge, but they dont have that 1 or 2 guys that can complrtely change the face if a game like they did in Daniel, Phelps, and Allen. If they hang for a quarter or an entire half, they will have my attention though.

FD 42

Paintsville 14

And FWIW, i hope Im wrong.

If you want to win the state championship, play tougher competition. It will expose your weaknesses and get you prepared for the game that really counts at the end of the season.

As to risk of injuries, that risk is there every time you set foot on the field regardless of who you are playing. I don't buy that the risk is any greater playing a really good team.

Yes, it is worth it to play tougher competition if your goal is to win championships.

Thats what I said in the Beechwood thread about their schedule. However you have to remember, this game only got schedule because a team dropped off of Paintsvilles schedule and FD had that week open. I dont think these two schools schedule this game under regular scheduling.

No disrespect meant, but if FD does not take this with a running clock, then I can't seem them a serious contender when it comes to 6-A,

What in the world is any 6-A team doing playing a 1-A team. Have they no self respect or pride ?

After a team dropped out of district play Paintsville need a game, and Douglas only had 9 scheduled, so dumb luck.

Thats not really a fair statement either. Say they get up 28, then decide to work on some things up the middle, not try to just score, and in turn it doesn't get the game to a running clock. Looking at the scoreboard, and using that to determine how the game went can be very unreliable.

FD is NOT a 6A contender (if contender means top 4), game will be a LOT closer than what most think. Paintsville might be top 5 in 1A, but difference is not that great- ultimately fresh bodies win out in a close game, FD 26 PV 21.
