Here's the penalty that really hurt Ballard the most in my opinion:

 

Fun game to watch as a football fan. Couple takeaways I had. Boyle’s oline is not bad there ok,but need to improve and will. Ballard is grown men at every position on both lines and solid legitimately 300 or better at about all positions. Both qbs struggled with ball security 4 picks by Ballard,Boyle Qb put the ball on the ground 3 times and a pick saved by a flag.In the quarterbacks defense they both were pressured all night Ballard line backers are solid but struggled with there reads looked inexperienced but definitely D1 athletes. The Hatter kid didn’t play much in the game for some reason?Coach Morton said, we dropped too many passes and turned over the ball too much and had silly penalties that killed us. Morton said the difference 2nd half was we couldn’t block Boyle’s big tackle 73, we tried several things and we still let a dline man have 11 tackles especially from nose and expect to be effective on offense and we didn’t pick up the blitz when Boyle sent guys.

 

I’m looking forward to going to Male next week, I said in another post Coach Morton is trying to change Ballard football, a win at Male would be huge. Boyle fans should be extremely happy although neither team really played well Boyle beat a very good and athletic football team. Last thing, folks Boyle is fast,very fast in person!

I wish I would have caught all of that a little better. Honestly, in real time I was watching the ball and only saw the flag out of the corner of my eye. I do know that the Ballard fans were not happy. They booed the refs off the field at halftime.

Aaron Hatter is just getting over strep throat. Missed practice early in the week and just wasn't 100%.

Is tightening up hits on the QB a point of emphasis this year for refs? That was a borderline call and I saw a similar call in another game that I thought was borderline.

Good thing about this game is that Boyle found out where their week spots were. They were able to get an idea of what they need to work on the most. I think the coaches probably knew those answers already but going against stiff competition helps the players see it better also. QB exchange issues should have been worked out in preseason but aside from that Lanter looked really good. He didn't get a ton of time on a lot of the pass plays and had some big bodies to step between, throw between and try to see the field over and around them and made a lot of really good quick decisions. I think he will pick apart several secondary's this year. Last td catch and run by Smith was a MAN's play.

I couldn’t tell if the call was a blow to the head or late hit. It cuts away so fast on prepspin and in this one. I could see Ballard having a real problem with the call.

If you rewind and watch it in slow motion the penalty was called because of a blow to the head, number 56 left forearm hit Lanter across the face mask and the top of the helmet knocking him to the ground.

I just watched it again. It almost looks like the Ballard player was pushed into the QB.
