It could keep the game on the ground a bit more. There probably will be a few more turnovers / fumbles and such but does wet field-turf make as big as a difference as a real-grass muddy field? I guess if it is literally pouring.

All Highlands needs to do is contain the Jags QB and it will be an easy win.

The game is at HHS.

Cooper plays a 4-3 defense, but Dixie actually ran the ball fairly well against them. Their QB is quick footed and throws well on the run. If Birds contain the QB, they should come out with a W. Birds by 2 scores..

 

Cooper runs a 4-2-5. Different concepts from a 4-3 with completely different reads on defense.

Love how some HHS posters are already claiming "Long night for Cooper" and the "HHS should" run up the score when ZERO games have been played. Cooper fielded probably the youngest team last year (literally and experienced wise) since the opening of the school 11 years ago. Those who fully understand football know that HHS had a good win last year, not dominant, and up until mid-3rd qtr the Jags were in that game.

 

I don't know who will win this game as neither team had anything to be proud of last year but I will predict this; if HHS does not contain Jeremiah Lee it WILL be a long, and I do mean long, night for HHS. While he is small in stature he is blessed with some unbelievable talent that doesn't come along often. Secondly, everything I have read this pre-season is that HHS has had problems covering in their secondary. If that is true it could spell some additional problems as both Perry (who is a legit 6'1"-6'2") and a leader on Cooper's track team and Armour who may only be 5'10" but is quick as all get out could get loose as well. One player not mentioned yet is Cooper TE Michael Spencer and I can assure you he will pose some serious match-up problems at 6'4" 220lbs.

 

Again, no idea who will win but for those who see this will be an easy win for HHS don't be surprised if Cooper keeps this close and squeaks out a narrow win.

I'm a Highlands guy and I'm not a big fan of the "long night" stuff either... even if I really think it will be, and I don't. Keep that stuff inside, Cooper has talent, no need to decorate their bulletin board.

 

Highlands secondary lost Steiden that had 3 picks in last years game but besides that the secondary is almost the exact same. I think the "problems with secondary" was a hyperbole from a 7 on 7. May have a deep ball for a TD more than last year. The defense is fast and nasty, they will not contain Lee all night but they will contain him enough to win. I think it will be a good game, but I think Highlands does get it done. Both teams are better than last year.

Being at home is good for HHS, mud is the great equalizer and would benefit Cooper. To the point earlier in the thread about containing J. Lee, it's not just his feet you need to worry about, he throws a nice ball from what I seen in the scrimmage with Ryle.

Perry is every bit of 6'1" or more and has looong arms. Cooper's passing game never really got under way last year so we didn't get to see him much. Armour is as advertised, very quick, athletic, and can catch. I do think these two players will give the defense some problems if the line can block. I think Lee spent a lot of time running around last year because of the pass rush.

 

Spencer at TE is a complete unknown at this point. He was a force in Pee Wee. But he transferred to Cov Cath as a Freshman, I think, and he didn't get much playing time there. When he came back to Cooper last year he had to sit out several games. His role on offense last year was primarily as a blocker. It will be interesting to see if they open up a little this season and throw to him. I'm not sure how well he runs after the catch but he is definitely a big target. I think he will be a fine blocker. He will be a force in the middle on defense. I'd like to see them throw to him. As I said, that is kind of an unknown a this point.

I can't predict the outcome of this game. What I do know is this is why we play the game.

 

Earlier in the thread it was mentioned about both programs are on the "up swing." Totally true.

 

What is also true is that Cooper is still very young. This group will have more years playing together even after this season.
