Russell 32 Fleming County 14

Fleming Co did a good job in the first half controlling the clock. They ran the I like Estill runs the double wing. No splits, one big mass of people coming right at you. The first quarter was much like the Russell Estill game. In the end Russell just wore Fleming down.

Fleming had a solid defensive game plan. They had 11 guys within 10 yards of the ball and overplayed the wing and taking away the sweep. They basically just outnumbered Russell's blockers.

In the pass game Fleming commtted to taking away Frazier but that left the flats wide open.

It was close for two quarters but Russell owned the second half.

Sounds like a pretty good game coaching wise, sometimes controlling the clock can be the best thing for your team. Congratulations to both teams, and good luck in the playoffs.

A tale of 2 halves. Fleming had a good game plan but Russell was just too strong and too talented for the Panthers tonight. Fleming came out on their 2nd possesion and ran the exact same play all the way down the field. They lined up double tight during most of the 1st half and had success moving the ball but Russell's D came up with a few stops to keep the Panthers out of the endzone. Fleming also ran their usual spread throughout the game to mix it up on the Devils with modest success. Russell ran very few plays in the first quarter while Fleming chewed up the clock for most of the half. Russell came out a little flat again in the first half but kicked into gear right from the start of the second half. Russell came out and marched right down the field for a score and just continued to march the rest of the game. The line started making the blocks they were missing in the 1st half and it opened up holes for Kasey and Beekman to run through. Toby Hicks came ALIVE in the 2nd half and he and Ethan Gullett dominated the line. Tyler Jones played a great game both on offensive and defense. He seems very comfortable at the QB position and is throwing the ball very well. The Russell coaches made adjustments at the half and Russell executed to perfection in the 2nd half. Fleming is a very good football and they'll be difficult to handle if we play again but it will be at the Hank. Thank you to the people of Flemingsburg for their hospitality to us, from the parking lot attendents to the Fleming coaches. They were nothing but polite and curtious. Now, It's back to the Hank to start the run for another!!!!!!!!!

Good job, Devils. Fleming may not overwhelm anyone with talent, but they play hard and have a coaching staff that can game-plan very effectively.

Good luck to both teams in the playoffs; and it will be fun to see Mason County playing Russell again, rain or shine!:D

Very good game to watch. I was very proud of Fleming's effort. In the end the Panthers were wore down by Russell. To start the season like we did and end last night giving a pretty good account of ourselves, this might be the best coaching effort from the Fleming staff in a long time. Fleming had some chances to keep it close, but when you get into the redzone, you have to make some noise. Give credit to Coach McGlone and his staff, they always make good halftime adjustments. Good luck to the Red Devils, looking for the trip to Russell in a couple of weeks, barring any upset.

It was great to see the Panthers fight hard. That team should be very proud of the way they played against a good Russell team. The fans were very nice and we hope to see the Panthers in a couple of weeks.

Congrats Devils! This was the kind of game that we needed. The defense was challenged and they answered. Tyler Jones was a beast running the bootleg. There are several Panthers waking up to some sore muscles this morning from the hits he laid on them at the end of several plays.

Panthers are to be commended for showing up with a good game plan and a lot of heart. Russell's talent and strength up front was just too much for them to overcome. We'll probably have round two in a couple of weeks, but this time we will be in the comfortable confines of "The Hank". Flemingsburg's facility is lacking for proper visitor side seating. Then you had the fans on the other side yelling for us to get off the track and behind the fence. That's a joke IMO. The Panther fans will definitley have better accommodations when they come to our house. They can watch their team's demise in comfort. :ylsuper:

WTG Red Devils. A little lathargic starting out. From here on it's play off time. Time to be on top of your game from the 1st second. Good adjusment the 2nd half. Fleming should have stuck to the running game. Panthers moved the ball well going to the left side for about 7-8 plays and found a weak spot on the Russell D-fence. Second half was a different game. Kicking has got to improve. Bad snaps and holds ???????? #23 had good kickoffs and missed a 48yd by 3 yds. Maybe better weather conditions next time????

Russell host East Carter next week at the HANK. Time to turn it up and play as a team. Give that DEVIL PRIDE :fire: :fire: :fire:

I agree with UKCatsFan that our entire line did a great job of opening up holes after that first drive. Kudos to FC, they did an excellent job on defense of not showing themselves to our blockers and making it hard to find them on blocks, but congrats to our line for making the adjustments and opening up the holes for our backs, even though sometimes it was for only 4 or 5 yards. I heard Ivan on the radio after last week's game talking about trying to preach to our backs that not every play is designed to go to the house and to just "slam it in there" and take what the line is giving you.

I also agree with devilpride78 that our kicking has got to improve. Bad weather and field conditions has really been a problem for our snappers, holders and kickers. On the snap that went over beek's head, I was watching and the snapper was trying to find someone/something to dry his hands on, but nobody had a towel or dry clothes on them. Same thing with the 2 holds. Both snaps were good, they just went thru his muddy wet hands.

Here's an Idea, I notice that when we do punt or kick a PAT or FG, we have some different personnel come into the game (like extra blockers etc.) Maybe one of them can be assigned the duty of wearing or having a towel to bring out with them to let our snapper and holder dry their hands on before we punt or kick the PAT or FG. Just a thought!!

It's playoff time , I don't see anyway Devils lose in first two games ... Who will be coming here in third game ?

Offense hasn't been challenged since Ashland ....

Defense hasn't seen anyone strong enough to compete into second half ...

What effects will this have one Devils in weeks 3 and 4 of playoffs ?
