The NBA is such a unique sport in the sense that it’s the only team sport where people are fans of players instead of teams, myself included. I don’t give a damn about the Cavs, Heat, and Lakers I just care where Lebron is. Where he goes, I go. Let’s Go!

 

Eh yes and no. I feel like it's a lot easier for people in this area or any area where there is no true hometown team to cheer for. To just end up hitching on to a player. However I am like you. In the NBA I cheer for where my favorite player goes to, not a team. However I think if Cincinnati had always had a pro team. They would be my favorite team much like the Bengals and reds, regardless of who my favorite player is.

It might not be a great shooting team, but it should be a great passing team with a lot of high level IQ basketball players. I for one have complained that the style James likes to play in is as much to blame for the need more help cries because its not a good system for teammates.

 

So maybe that is now changing. He has a head coach who wants to run the same offense as Golden State, since he was there when Kerr implented it. Now with James, Rondo, and Ball you have 3 guys who are smart basketball players and generally make the right basketball plays and move the ball. So it will be interesting if James adapts more to a new system to fit the players around him. Or if he ends up being Lebron James type offense again that is not as great for teammates.

 

Im very excited to see how it all plays out. Could be a very fun team to watch depending on the system they use.

I think the NBA focuses it’s marketing efforts on the players and not the teams so I think this also plays a huge factor in why there are so many Lebron, Kobe, Steph, KD, MJ, etc. fans as opposed to football where you don’t really see too many Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady fans. You mainly see Packers and Patriots fans.

Fair point. However I know if the Bengals weren't close it probably would be by favorite player for me. When Brett Favre played whoever he played for would have easily been my team if it wasnt for the Bengals. But you are its a lot easier to market specific players in the NBA because there is not as many players.

It will be interesting to see how the Lakers look this year. Obviously getting James was very big, but I’m almost as impressed with the one year deals they have gotten.

I'm not sure what you mean by financial packages. I'm taking about trade packages with the Spurs. Not Kawhi's contract.

 

I guess you are right about trade packages. The Lakers can afford to give up more than other teams will because they know they can sign Kawhi versus him being a one year rental by other teams. The Clippers are the only other team that would have a chance at signing Kawhi long term.
