How would Owensboro have 2?

I think he’s counting Tropicana as an Owensboro draw....which it most definitely is

I agree. I think we’ve effectively missed the boat (no pun intended) on gambling. The casino boom burned pretty hot, but now many casinos in other states are struggling, as saturation points are being reached. I’m not sure that casinos are the answer.

I admittedly haven't studied this issue as much, but this is my somewhat uninformed answer.

Sin tax and maybe a state sales tax increase are two places I would immediately look. But again with those two things, I have no idea what kind of revenue they would generate.

Again, my whole fear is that we'll never be able to dig out of this, whether it's a $40 billion hole or a $60 billion hole.

You're right, the other one would be farther away. Although I know several people in Cinti that drive by one to go about the same distance away to Lawrenceburg IN because they've become used to playing there.

Initial, I dont think IN will lose the market share they have. Over time, maybe so. Sure there will be initial interest because the KY casinos will be new, but there is a lot of loyalty in Casino people, they like to go where they go, and dont like change.

You are wrong on this one. The decline in IN gaming will be swift and lasting. Gamers are happy to be loyal. But again, you are only looking at major Metro areas. Some big gamers are driving 3-4 hours to play. Yes they get comps, but they would love to keep that drive to a minimum.

My wife and I LOVE casinos but we don’t love them enough to drive to Indiana or Ohio frequently. I know tons of people just like us. Put one in Lexington and we’d be there at least once a month to spend the night. And don’t let the Supreme Court legalize sports betting. Shoooooooottttt. March Madness at a casino in Lexington????? You kidding me?!?!??!?!? I’d probably become a valet parking attendant as my side gig.

I really wanted to stay out of this thread but it is being ruined with all the casino talk.

Please stay on topic.

Of course it is because its the only option. French Lick is a Louisville draw, also Evansville and Owensboro. Keep in mind Owensboro to Evansville isn't that much different than French Lick to Louisville.
I believe, and again, not an expert on this, that the capping of sick days towards retirement is a major issue and can ultimately cost teachers thousands per year in retirement and salary.

However, I think their biggest point, and rightfully so I'll add, is the optics of attaching a 291 page bill that no one had read, and had had no actuarial review, to the back-end of a sewage bill at the 11th hour. That looks like the opposite of being "represented" by your Representatives.

Isn't this illegal?

To get back on course.

I am sorry Teachers, but "they" are coming for you too!

You could be right, time will tell, I just know the impact from Ohio opening for Indiana Casinos (being I worked for one for a few years) and am basing it on that.

It's common sense. People from KY aren't going to drive past casinos in their own states to go to IN and OH.

Belive me, I know exactly who draws what and what the distances are. :lol2:

Im not sure, it looks like what they did was take the old bill and amend it into this wastewater bill. If that is the case and an actuarial review was done on the old bill then im not sure if it is legal or not. Now if they made changes to the last draft of the old bill while amending it to the wastewater bill then it should have had a new actuarial review done yes.

However lets be clear, those reviews are not the best either.
