How far can this Raceland team go?

Featured Replies

This is all well and fine for us to discuss and all but I have full confidence in our coaching staff to make the right play calls/game plan in any game that we play. Raceland imo has one of the very best coaching staffs in the state of Kentucky.

Just so everyones knows. I am a Raceland fan. I'm not a bandwagon fan. I support Raceland. All I said was that we can't approach LCA(if we get there) the same way as last time. I hope the Rams go all the way. But, just because i support them, doesn't mean I will always think they are going to win. I will ALWAYS hope for a Ram win though.

I want to see Raceland do well cause for years they have got a pretty raw deal having to play the Beechwoods and NCC's but unfortunately they wont get past LCA and even if they do they wont past a NKY team

I am glad that Raceland's players and coaches aren't thinking like you are. If so I guess by your philosophy on this that the Rams should just forfiet and not even bother to get on the bus.

:thumb: I know that you are Raceland fan stat. I was just trying to point out how all of us "keyboard coaches" on bgp can talk and debate till' the cows come home and our team has to take care of matters on the field. That is the bottom line. I belive that this Raceland team has the ability and talent to make a deep run this year and that our coaching staff is as good as anyone in the state and better than most. Raines at LCA is anothe that fits in that category.

Just a few things from this lengthy thread. The question was asked if Raceland had ever beaten LCA @ LCA. I think a Raceland fan said we had, but we haven't. Our first meeting was in 2001 and LCA beat us 24-22 @ LCA. We made the playoff's that season via the tiebreaker.

Also someone stated that we beat NCC when they were the 1 seed. We have never beaten a #1 from NKY. NCC was the 2 and Raceland the 3.

Most Raceland fans have become used to a NKY team getting a W through us in the playoffs. But every year brings a new squad a new vision. I certainly am not making any predictions on how far this Ramblers team will advance. I think they are capable of doing some great things. But we have also seen times when they have looked uninspired. And frankly the history of LCA, Raceland and the NKY teams have little to do with this season's matchups. It is the teams currently and how they execute on that Friday night and for many games this time of year it comes down to turnovers.

We cannot get upset with others' view of our team, with our poor performance in the playoffs and our recent struggle with LCA it is only fitting that those that do not see our team play in person, predict and feel the way they do. I feel we have had many teams that have been solid top 5 teams through the years, but without the opportunity to play someone other than NKY in the playoffs we only have subjective opinions and speculations where our teams rated in a particular season. And many times matchups determine games and without head to head competition, there again it is all just a big guessing game.

Quickly on the watering issue, I like many of the Rambler fans have been here longer than most. And I have NEVER seen or heard of a sprinkling of the field during the playoffs.

Raceland fans like many others follow their teams win or lose. Supporting and pulling for those kids that work so hard. And regardless of their previous records in the playoffs, we all continue to dream of that State Championship, maybe this is the season for us Orange fans. We will see.

Very well stated AND politically correct there TBF :thumb: . This is an election year, by this speech would you by any chance be running for any office??:D  I wouldn't want to miss your name on the ballot at the polls on election day.;)

A more accurate statement about Ram football statement was never made. :thumb: Over the years Raceland has developed somewhat "Oh no here we go again" mentality against NKY teams. From the fans, to the players, to the local media. For example the '94 team was very good and very capable of defeating a NKY team. Instead Erlanger came to Ram Stadium and scored on the opening kickoff and it killed the crowd, the players, everbody. You could just hear the air being sucked out of the stadium, the sidelines, and even the Super Quick on the corner of Raceland Ave and US 23. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but the '97 team that went 10-0 also got beat pretty badly in the first playoff game didn't they?

I do think Coach Vanderhoof has done a good job of changing the culture in Ram Country. I think he was just what the Rams needed and the fact they have been more competitve with NKY teams since he took over shows that. Vanderhoof has changed the perception in Raceland proper that the Rams are not able to advance past NKY teams. There has been a renewed sense hope and a change in attitude. But it takes time and big wins in big games to change the perception outside of Ram Country.

The new playoff format certainly favors the Rams as far as advancing in the playoffs. And we can talk about LCA all we want, but in order to even get there the Rams have to beat Paris...twice. I have confidence that Raceland's great staff will keep the kids focused on the task at hand. And that task is beating Paris...twice. Looking ahead to LCA will only spell doom. And looking further ahead to playing a NKY powerhouse again spells even further doom.

I certainly hope Raceland makes it to he Pizza Box. And I hope Russell does as well. Nothing would make me happier than to get to watch two schools only 3 miles or so apart each compete for a state championship. But Raceland can't look ahead. Take it a game at a time and worry about LCA, Beechwood, Pikeville, or whoever the Football Gods put in your path when you get there.

For one, Raceland did not get whipped by LCA. The Rams played their WORST game of the season that night and still only got beat 21-10. The LCA loss was the best thing to happen to the Rams. They are more focused and determined than ever before. Remember my words... Raceland WILL beat LCA. No doubt about it. After they do that, I am VERY confident that they can make it all the way to Papa Johns. The RACELAND RAMS are LIGIT! Something special is happening in Raceland. But dont take my word for it, the stats and the play of the young men do all the talking. I advise you not to make an opinion about the Rams until you have seen them play.

I would add from what I saw Paris played their worst game ever against LCA.

That score did not truly reflect how Paris can really play when they decide to play together.

Frankfort is the best team I have seen thus far in ClassA play.

Can't wait to see Raceland play. Rambler has me all hype over it.

If Raceland goes to LCA for the District Championship - Raceland puts it out of reach in the third quarter. Raceland will win that game. If it is played. I have seen both play and have seen the film from their previous match up. Raceland is the better team. Raceland will need to play field position and not let LCA's kicking game hurt them and cause them to play on a long field all night.

But trust me - Pairs and Bath County will be doing everything possible to see that the LCA / Raceland match up does not take place.

Like I said 4 or 5 weeks ago when OldRambler and Cville misunderstood me - I'd rather see Bath Co. play LCA in the playoffs rather than Bath Co. play Raceland.

Good Luck to all! I'm behind whoever comes out of this District.:thumb:

It's good to see that we all stick together in our district!

TBF, I think I am the poster you refer to who stated that Raceland has beaten LCA at home. I thought the question was if we have ever beaten LCA & you are correct in that we have not won in their house. We have one win against LCA since they started their program. The head to head record is 1-5. Our win came in the 2nd year of their program and was our only win since. The 1st matchup with them was as you stated.Sam Mckee put his name in the KY record books with 54 passing attempts in a 24-22 loss. That began the Air Raid era at RHS.

I agree with you that just maybe this is the year all the pieces fall in place.

^I know that Raceland has beaten LCA the one time since we have been playing. The second year of the series at Raceland and I think that it was by a wide margin. All others since have went to LCA.

I agree there were some bad calls but it was to my understanding that at least one if not two officials were out of Lexington and not from here. So where they are from means little. How the ballgame is called means alot

If any of the crew members were from Lexington that would mean they were all from Lexington. There are no officials from Lexington on any crews from around here.

I feel that Raceland can get to the state semis with a little luck.

It was the 96 team that went 10-0. They beat Dayton in the regular season who happened to be #2 that year out of NKY. Then got upset by NCC in the first round.

I played on the 94 team and to this day I am very proud of the things we accomplished, but in no way, shape, or form could we have beat Lloyd, Beechwood or NCC that year. We were definitely out manned that year. We had some great skilled players, but our lack of depth on both sides of the ball was our undoing.

Thank you all those years run together the older I get! :D The '94 team is my favorite Ram team of all time. You guys fought, punched, and scrapped your way to a great season. No game went by that you guys didn't leave it all on the field. :thumb:
