Bowling Green 1 Breckinridge County 0 (Forfeit)

Featured Replies

This is being reported on the KHSAA website. I'm assuming that Breckinridge County made this decision. I know Breck is struggling, but I didn't know it was this bad.

Actually it would officially be BG 2 BC 0 Forfeit. Per the KHSAA. Plus Breck Co. pays the Forfeit buyout fee in the contract.

Barring some type of virus hitting the team or a death of a player I wonder what kind of sanctions the KHSAA will take against Breckinridge since it is a district game...plus what kind of message do you send to your kids playing that hey if we can't win we should just quit and not even try...very poor message this sends to the kids not only in high school but the players coming up. As a coach and player you should have looked at this game as a chance to compete with the best team in your class...and granted they have not had a win this year, but what a chance to give the old David versus Goliath speech and go out and compete.

I agree 100%. If there isn't a serious reason this game was forfeited by Breck such as a death within the team or school or a widespread team sickness then this is just cowardly of Breck. I know BG is one of the best in 3A or any class but to not go out and play because you don't think your team has a chance is terrible and sends a bad message to every kid in that school.

The 'messages' have been sent to all the kids at Breck for a long time. Basketball is king...everything else can drop off the edge. To call the football team cowardly is off base and uncalled for. What 'lessons' are going to be learned by taking one more unavoidable beating?

This game was pointless. The Breck kids have labored under a no support situation all year. Their field is nearly unplayable. The first time Franklin-Simpson went up there this year one goal post had only one upright. The second trip ended with a game over in two hours that was 42-0 at the half. The Warren East/Breck game was worse than that.

This game would have been a positive for no one involved.

Didn't realize Breck football program was in this bad of shape... if I offended anyone with the "cowardly" comment I am sorry. Sounds like they need to drop the football program all together.

Absolutely they DO NOT need to drop the program. They need to get behind the program and support it.

There is no other sport that offers so much to so many as football. It is ridiculous that a 3A school can not field a competive football team. It is all about commitment from the top down.

I always thought a forfeit resulted in a 1-0 score. Since there is no other way to have 1-0 result in football, a 1-0 score is always distinguishable as a forfeit.

I think the best thing for us to find the real story. Then comment. IF anyone has the real story please post. :sssh:

Mr Network is correct. unless the game is a forfeit while the game is ongoing, then then score stands if the offended team is ahead.

Absolutely they DO NOT need to drop the program. They need to get behind the program and support it.

If they are having to forfeit games due to the lack of competiveness it sounds like to me they need to drop the program, IMO.

I disagree. As long as there is 11 on the team, you should play the game. Whipping or not, there is a lot to be learned from playing the sport. The last thing that you want kids to learn is not to play if you are outmatched. That won't carry them very far in life.

I agree. You shouldn't forfeit a district game unless there are very unusual circumstances that can't be avoided. Bad field conditions are not legit, move the game to the other team's venue.

I would be ticked off if I were a Bowling Green player.
