Bowling Green 1 Breckinridge County 0 (Forfeit)

I disagree. As long as there is 11 on the team, you should play the game. Whipping or not, there is a lot to be learned from playing the sport. The last thing that you want kids to learn is not to play if you are outmatched. That won't carry them very far in life.

I don't think the program should be dropped if they would go out there and play, I don't care if they get beat 100-0, if they go out there with only 11 players on the team and play hard then they should keep the program.

But if they are going to start forfeiting games espically district games then they shouldn't have a football team.

I will agree with that.

I will agree with that.

Breck Co. has never had a football program. They have fielded teams over the last 30+ years and some of them were pretty competitive, but they have never had a program. MACDON got it right when he said the unless you are basketball in Breck Co. you don't matter. It is a shame for the kids in that community to be treated that way. Their facilities are pathetic and the support is worse (except from the parents). The administration needs to make a decision about the future of their football teams.

This is very sad for this school and these players. I am a basketball and a football fan, but football is able to encompass so many more players. The sport does things for kids. The involvement does things for kids.

I hope that the "higher ups" take note and do their jobs in helping these kids.

I think the best thing for us to find the real story. Then comment. IF anyone has the real story please post. :sssh:

Here is the "real story": "Breckinridge County has decided to forfeit the game on Friday. Officially, Bowling Green is credited with a 2-0 win and neither team is allowed to schedule another game for this date. Breckinridge County will pay a forfeit fee, per the KHSAA contract with BGHS.

BGHS will end the season at home on Friday, Oct 27 against Franklin-Simpson. "

If I'm not mistaken, about ten years ago Breckinridge County played as an independent. They moved into Class 3A in the late 1990s and even had some success. I'm not sure why there is a complete lack of support...it just doesn't make much sense. Is the problem with the administration, coaching staff, community or all three? This is such an odd situation.

I've also noticed that in the last nine seasons Breckinridge County has had four years where they only played nine regular season games. Is this due to the district not providing money for a tenth game or a coaches decision?

The following is a compilation of Breckinridge County results since 1998:

1998: 0-9

1999: 7-3 (Class 3A first round playoff loss to Lincoln County)

2000: 11-2 (Class 3A regional final loss to Waggener)

2001: 2-8

2002: 2-8

2003: 2-7

2004: 1-8

2005: 1-8

2006: *Currently* 0-9

By the way, is there a similar problem at Muhlenberg North? All of the basketball talk and lack of community support made me think there might be some comparisons.

It makes me wonder if the school isn't posturing to play a non-district schedule for the next two years, despite the recent alignment.

This could be possible. They are slated to play in Class 4A, District 3, along with Atherton, Fairdale, Valley and Western.

By the way, what is the cutoff for deciding to play a non-district schedule next season? With so many four team districts, I would think the KHSAA would need to know this soon to keep from having any three-team districts and someone having a playoff bye.

But what was the reason for the forfeit?

How can Breck Co. get to the regional final in 2000 and still not have any support behind it?

Because it's a basketball town. Same as Muhlenberg County and Fulton County

I think almost every town besides town's in NKY are basketball towns... this is Kentucky. That doesn't mean that they don't support their football teams.

I think that everybody associated with BGHS Football deserves to know why Breckinridge Co took such a step. I've seen teams with worse odds go ahead and honor their contract. Why aren't they? I've seen nothing about why...just that they're doing it.

I could see it if they had a player/players go through some sort of tragedy or a rash of injuries. I can't see it if Coach Hildenbrandt wanted his players to avoid a horse whipping. In last year's game, we agreed to shorten the game because we were already up 56-0 and they had several players injured in the game. Now there isn't even going to be one and BGHS can't schedule another game to keep the guys sharp.

And if the Breckinridge Co Board of Education isn't going to support their football program any better than they are, then why bother even having a football team? That's pretty sad when, say, Clinton Co fields a football team for the first time since the early 1970s, and other schools who adopted the same position for years are fielding football teams now, yet Breckinridge Co's program seems to be falling into a black hole. I think that those kids deserve better than that.

Fulton County?
