One thing I will add on Mayer. He makes great reads. He will instantly find the open receiver no matter who it is. Look at how many guys catch the ball from him in every game. It is nearly impossible to get pressure on him because of the nature of the offense and his great, quick decision making. As long as his linemen don't whiff, the ball will be gone long before you can get pressure on him.

Congrats Colonels. This bluebird fan wants to see a state championship for you guys. You have a great coach and an unbelievable team. Best of luck going forward.

Where's the Love B-Ball?

QB Drew Zaubi - like Mayer, a three year starter - actually has three year stats that are similar to Mayer. Zaubi has thrown over 60 TD passes in his three seasons. But Zaubi was a little off, the receivers had some drops, and the Colonels did a nice job of playing the receivers tight. It was nice that Drew's final pass at South went for a TD; unless I'm mistaken, his first pass as a starter two years ago as a sophomore went for a touchdown, too...

 

I thought Zaubi had all the tools. Tall, strong kid who throws a nice ball. One of the better qb's I've seen this year.

South didn't ask Zaubi to throw the ball nearly as much this year. He had the fewest attempts of his three full seasons as the starter. They simply didn't need him to, with the running game generating nearly 300 yards a game, and a lot of new receivers. He came into the game with 1,050 yards passing this year with a 16-3 TD-INT ratio. Still, not too shabby, even though it was statistically his least productive year through the air!

 

But his career numbers coming into the game were this:

247-507-20 4,607 yards, 64 TDs over three seasons as a starter.

 

His best year, numerically, was his junior year, when he passed for 2,317 yards, 32 TDs, and 9 INT.

Been DJ'ing all season the virtual Friday Night Lights Party so been preoccupied serving up the jams where I'd otherwise be listening to the broadcasts with the exception that this game was on video, so I couldn't help but to blow it up on my big screen.

 

Never fear... in a couple short weeks I'll be right at home listening to the best play-by-play coverage in all of high school basketball :thumb: (when I'm not physically at the games, of course).

Great season Dragons! Not the ending anyone envisioned but CovCath is a very good team. I saw some tape on them and it was obvious they were good but in person is something different. They are solid in all phases of the game and have some exceptional players at key positions. Their discipline and technique is excellent and they execute very well. It is obvious the coaching is first rate. Congratulations to the Colonels and best of luck in the coming weeks. I will say that with who they have coming back it is clear they are a program built for continuing success. I also enjoyed talking to a few CovCath fans before the game. Seems to me a class program.

 

To the Dragons – well done! You played hard to the end and gave it all you had. Very proud of you guys. The post game tears will fade away but the memories of what you accomplished and the work it took will never die. This is a group of graduating seniors that have a lot of firsts in school history. You have taken South Oldham football to places they have never been before and it is something you will remember the rest of your lives. Three straight Regional Finals and a trip to the semi-finals, a record of 32-7 over the last three years. Each year you had an amazing fourth quarter come from behind victory in the playoffs to keep the dream alive. Those games bring a smile whenever it comes up! Thanks to the coaches for all you have done for these young men. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated. To the next classes the bar has been set a little higher and I know you are capable of taking the program to even greater heights! Go Dragons!
