I know it's a little early for this talk, but I got the chance to see both Russell and Mercer Co. play this year. From what I can tell Mercer WILL dominate Russell high school if they meet up in the playoffs. Mercer has too much speed for the Red Devils. Coach Jaggars won't look back when he scores 30 + the night they play. Also from what I hear about their D is that anyone that runs the wing-t won't get as much as 100 yards total offense. Don't get mad Red Devils, Just calling it as I see it. :fire:

I'm sure that if we make it that far, the Devils we give it their best shot to compete. It may or may not be enough. To use a much over used cliche; "That's why they play the games". From what I can tell about this Mercer team thus far, they do indeed seem to be at least two classes above the rest.

This should be a good match...Great selection for pick em contest.

Nothing is wrong with this thread. I can state an opinion. BUT Facts are Mercer has two of the top five fastest kids in the state and one not far from the two. It's hard to defend that, especially when the Red Devils run a 52 and their Ends (which are contain) are on the LOS. There is NO WAY they can contain that kind of speed. Sorry, sticking to my story.

Mercer Russell was a good game last year, and the better team won that night. I predict the same kind of game only much closer. If it WERE to happen, (both teams would have to beat some very good teams in the playoffs) I personally think it would be a nail biter.

But fun to watch..

Exactly! Anyway, Jaggars knows the wing-t like the back of his hand. Everything that Russell does he will have a counter for it. I know his D will be prepared. They have a heck of a coaching staff.

Russell has a decent coaching staff as well. They too will have a defensive strategy to attempt to counter the speed and athleticsm of Mercer's backs. You say you've seen us play, so you should know that we can do more than execute the wing-t. Our QB throws a nice ball and our receivers can catch it. :devil:

Yes but only 3 routes....thats not hard to cover.

Just remember the old cliche....Defense wins Championships...I know that last year everyone was saying that Bardstown was THE fastest team in the state...and yes they were extremely quick, but if you play good hard nosed defense then you can shut down that speed...and that is what Mayfield did to them last year. So it can be done...also another factor with the Mercer County team is that how will these kids react when they get into the playoffs as if you have not been there before then the nerves start to get to you...especially if you have not lost and get into a tight game...how will you respond...and that is what makes championship caliber football teams.

There is nothing particularly magical about the wing-t. Its been Russell's bread & butter for decades and they run it to PERFECTION. Opposing defenses will know whats coming...now try and stop it.
