Mercer Co. VS Russell?

Featured Replies

These two teams cannot meet until the state championship game. They may be the odds-on favorites to make it there, but when was the last time that has happened in 2A?

God it's good to be a Belfry fan right now.... such a relief not having that gigantic bullseye like last year even when your team is equally as good if not better....

That's right. I think there was a team last year that was a shoe-in for the title... Ft Campbell???? :sssh:

Yes but only 3 routes....thats not hard to cover.

If executed well, it only takes three...:thumb:

Exactly! Anyway, Jaggars knows the wing-t like the back of his hand. Everything that Russell does he will have a counter for it. I know his D will be prepared. They have a heck of a coaching staff.

Yeah, I guess thats why they held Russell to only 41 last year.

Who knows if either of these teams will make it that far. Russell and Belfry in the east appear to be pretty eqaual. And from all accounts Western has more team speed than Mercer.

No way on that one. I've seen Western. They have equal speed in the backfield but top to bottom they dont even come close to Mercer. But back to the thread, this is what I mentioned in an earlier thread but I believe this would be a great game if it happens. I believe either team can win no doubt. You have to execute. If you are disciplined on defense then you can shut down speed by being where you are suppose to be. I believe this will be a 7 to 14 point spread at the end. And it could go either way. But we just need to get by the second round first.

If it were to happen I'm sure it would be a great game. Russell and Belfry do not exactly lack speed either. Middlesboro might even spoil the plans of both of those teams in the east. Lets just see how it all shakes out.

I think this thread is a little ridiculous in the fact that both teams mentioned may not make that far.

Who cares if they are unpopular! Just WIN Baby! GO TITANS!

Coach Bryant used to tell his boys when they won to act like you've been there before. Its good advice. But then again, you haven't really ever been there before.

I know it's a little early for this talk, but I got the chance to see both Russell and Mercer Co. play this year. From what I can tell Mercer WILL dominate Russell high school if they meet up in the playoffs. Mercer has too much speed for the Red Devils. Coach Jaggars won't look back when he scores 30 + the night they play. Also from what I hear about their D is that anyone that runs the wing-t won't get as much as 100 yards total offense. Don't get mad Red Devils, Just calling it as I see it. :fire:

I'm a committed Russell fan for life. I love the Red Devils but I think with my head not my heart. I would suspect that Mercer has a lot of speed. Keep in mind Speed is not everything although it is nice to have it. This game will be won if it happens by the team that has the least amount of injuries. To early to tell. The linemen play well. Still to early to tell. The line backers are fast and fill the holes. Still to early.

If I were a gambling man I would say that neither one of these two will even make it to Louisville. Now stopping the wing-T. If we could gamble on here and we can't. I would take that bet. Under 100 yards. Dream land. That will not happen unless they combine another team with Mercer. I don't think we will see that.

Mercer is Number 1 team on paper. They earned it. The real number 1 will be decided on the field.

Nothing is wrong with this thread. I can state an opinion. BUT Facts are Mercer has two of the top five fastest kids in the state and one not far from the two. It's hard to defend that, especially when the Red Devils run a 52 and their Ends (which are contain) are on the LOS. There is NO WAY they can contain that kind of speed. Sorry, sticking to my story.

Just how fast are these three kids? What are thier names and numbers on thier jersey? I'm sure you have 40 yard combine times for us. No one would say they are 2 of the top five in the state without being able to back it up with facts. Thanks in advance for giving us the facts.

I read from another post a long time ago in the pre season that at the Centre Combine #2 Cory Jackson ran a 4.31 Donald Walker #32 ran a 4.32(he should return this week from injury) and Brandon Ford #13 ran a 4.33 that was with a hand time though, and the wind played a factor. But still that is extremely fast!!!

I think this thread is a little ridiculous in the fact that both teams mentioned may not make that far.

I agree!! I am sooo sick of these hypothetical threads...

Let's just all concede the championship to Mercer...Is that what you want to hear??

You guys may very well be 3 TD's better than everyone else...Like I've said before (I know it's not your fault), enjoy your year playing down in class because the real world will be there waiting to bust you in the mouth next year...But, I will say this about this year, whoever comes out of the East will show up and you'll know you were in a fight when the game is over...

BTW, if you guys don't win it all this year you will be wiping egg off your face until mid-January...It might be the biggest choke job in KHSAA history!!!

All the while, Western has no presence on this site...

The silent killer of Mercer? Western?

Well, that it guys. We might as well not even show up. Just go ahead and give the rings to Mercer, we'll just get ready for B-ball.

First thing to come to mind was the hit Clark put on there QB last fall right after Russell was penalized three times for getting a little rough I don't know how many remember that but I bet that kid does just wondering do they still have the same QB from last year?
