The sad part, and what I think RRR and I are pointing to, is that LSU/Arizona is a big OOC game for the SEC. Not the statement you want when it is all on the line...

 

I would put the CAL, Clemson, and Fl. St. games over Arizona game, but I do agree that some SEC schools need to step up, so do schools from every conference.

Let's look at tOSU OOC teams Northern Ill., TEXAS, Cinn., and Bowling Green. Other than Texas it is cupcake, and nobody is saying they won't be in the BSC title game if they win out.

NIU has a Heisman threat, and UC has been solid on the road in two very tough games. In terms of the BCS, tO$U is right where they need to be. The $EC should take notes...

And you don't think Florida is right where they need to be if they win out? Also, starting out at the top of the preseason polls helps out a lot.

I think Florida is where they need to be right now, but they end with Directional Carolina and a down FSU. There is no doubt that there are major flaws in the system, but I continue to uphold the teams that play the hand on the table...

You really don't want to hang your hat on posts like this. :laugh: NIU has a Heisman "threat", yeah man. UC struggled with the worst Miami team in like a 100 years, at home.

Of course the SEC is the best football conference in the country. Florida, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, have all been in the top 10 this year, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe UT not yet, but they're in the top 12. Someone name another conference with five schools in the top 12.

So the point can again be made that the SEC doesn't have the proof on the table that shows it to be so dominate over the rest of the country right now.

Complaining does not change history. The rest of the pack is playing the game. The SEC is not. Not matter how flawed the BCS is, it's how the game is played. Love it or hate it, play or stand the chance of being left out...

While the SEC is disgustingly tough (the jury is really out on that). The members HAVE to play those games, it's those that you don't have to play, that come into people's opinions...

I don't use the word dominate so liberally as you are, I just think that top to bottom the SEC is the best overall conference. Plus, a late season win over a legitiamite team could give them the boost they need to leap over another team just ahead of them in the polls. Its much easier to bounce back from an early season loss than it is a late season loss. So, teams like Florida are taking a major risk playing tough OOC games late in the season. OSU and Texas played early on so a loss didn't completely end their chances at the BCS title, but if they played in November it would have.

Both with 1 D-1 title, now.....how many years for Carr in D-1 and how many years for Tressel in D-1? What is the record of head to head meetings between the two? :confused:

 

Ahh...I was just playing devil's advocate. I put Lloyd Carr in the class with Coker, Fulmer and Tubby (just the like the article). So, personally, picking between he and Tressel is a no-brainer for me. :thumb:

I wasn't attempting to prove the competitiveness (good or bad) of the SEC through it's OOC schedule, but more so to make the point that because of thier OOC schedule we really don't know what the SEC has. I don't feel that the SEC provides a clear enough picture, due to the lack of big OOC games. In other words, with thier OOC schedule all the SEC teams could be good to mediocre instead of great to good but we would be non the wiser because they didn't play any significant games OOC.

 

I'm critical of the opinion the the SEC is the "runaway best conference". I don't feel that there is enough factual support to legitimize hyperbolies like "If you don't think the SEC is the best you need your head examined" or "Everyone knows the SEC is the best conference". As I said in another post I believe the SEC does not play the best quality football by any degree. In watching Mountian West games I can usually see lesser athletes play "better football" than the usual ultra conserative, defensive end dominated SEC play.

I agree for the most part. The SEC is the best overall conference, IMO, but it's nowhere close to a landslide. I think SEC teams are justified in their scheduling choices because most of them have 4 "huge" games already built in to the schedule. That's just as many, if not more, than most of the other power teams. The difference is the others have to go out of conference to meet that number because their conference schedule doesn't give it to them by default.

I've NEVER said otherwise.

I see the Gators losing to the War Tigers. Losing two games back to back at the plains will not happen. And of course this knocks a SEC team out of the top Five and leaves no unbeaten team.
