And there's the SEC problem. If you refuse to "play the game" expect what goes along with it. Auburn had Florida, LSU and Georgia at home this year and went with Wash St/Buffalo/Tulane/Ark St OOC. That loss to Arkansas kills Auburn and the BCS if there isn't a collapse around the rest of the big boys...

I really don't think it would mattter.....A team like LSU would beat any team from the MWC any time any where IMO.

The reason why SEC teams play no more than 1 quality out of conference opponent is because in the SEC they get tested more than any other teams do in their respective conference.

Auburn could have 'played the game' and won it, then lost two in the SEC. While the team they beat in 'the game' finishes the season with one loss and goes to the championship. The BCS is flawed.

I think Auburn's problem was that they started way down in the rankings due to a below average year in '03, so they never could jump over 2 other undefeated teams.

Im not complaining. Im just stating that the BCS is flawed. But just because an SEC team doesnt make it to the championship very often doesn't mean it isn't the best football conference in the land. Just my opinion. I can live with SEC teams not winning national championships. UK's schedule was ranked as one of the top 10 toughest this preseason. Who do they play OOC? Noone.

Everyone else doesnt play the in-conference schedule SEC has to play, plain and simple.

Also another thing that hurts the SEC is look at Florida. They will play Fla St. Well usually thats a big boost to beat Fla St. This year it dont mean anything. Tennesee destroyed the 2nd best team in the Pac10. But they have to play Florida, Georgia, and whoever their SEC West opponent is, and that is probably keeping them out of the National Title.

 

I think there is little doubt right now that USC, Ohio St, and Michigan are top 5 teams. Then I believe that Notre Dame, Texas, and either UL or WVA (depending how things play out are top 10 teams.

But I think the other 4 best teams in the country are probably from the SEC.

Arizona snuck by BYU and "took care" of Stephen F Austin with 14 4th Quarter points before falling to USC and Washington at home and UCLA on the road. I'm not sure I'd be using Arizona as a quality opponent outside of the fact that they play in the Pac 10. Do you consider Arizona a decent team? Would you stand for UL fans saying UK was a quality SEC win???

Not a decent team, but one that won't kill your SOS, either. They are better than any 1AA and they play in a BCS conference. I dream of the days when UL will consider UK a quality win.

The sad part, and what I think RRR and I are pointing to, is that LSU/Arizona is a big OOC game for the SEC. Not the statement you want when it is all on the line...

Let's look at tOSU OOC teams Northern Ill., TEXAS, Cinn., and Bowling Green. Other than Texas it is cupcake, and nobody is saying they won't be in the BSC title game if they win out.
