I have heard that Scott does have students with the athletic ability to have a decent football team, but as GT asked, how do you persuade these guys to come out for the team?

I believe it was Renolyds Flynn who coached Holmes in basketball said if he got all the athletes out who roam the hallways of Holmes he would win the region every year and contend for a state title every year.

Please quote me where you heard Mr. Flynn speak these words.

This was back when he was still the coach at Holmes.

No one has ever really known what it is like to win at football at Scott. I've been in a locker room before games and people were talking about how bad we were going to get beat by. It is sad that Scott can't put together a few good years. The Eagles don't have a feeder team. The youth league kids have never really come to Scott, and the good players at woodland opt somewhere else. The playoff year I'd say atleast 10-15 sophomores started atleast 2 games and the next year comes around and they quit because of two coachs (who then quit and went to Campbell County the same year). I think not having a team would not work at all, because people will still remember all the losses Scott has suffered and the same thing will happen when the program starts back up. Scott's only hope is Dougy P. Doug... Where are you?

Doug is fine - taking care of his family. He has a great foundation established.

Facilities is not the problem. Until this year Scott has had the best facilities in the school district for 25+ years and Dixie has had the worst.

Open enrollment hurts some but it's not the main problem either. Scott had a losing program before there was open enrollment.

Mustang is right on the money when he says that Campbell Co is the model for Scott. Get a coach who convinces the students to come out for the team and when they win a few football games open enrollment and facilities will be a moot point.

However, finding just the right coach is a lot harder than saying you need to find that guy.

Dixie did not have even a good FB field before the turf was put down. I don't think it was the field/school aka 1937 was a reason for open enrollment.

If you were to go into the facilities, you will find that alot of the equipment is run down and some of them need to be replaced. Idk about having the best facilities for 25+ years......

I was thinking about this as it relates to Holmes before I even saw this thread. West Point requires all cadets to play at least one sport a year at some level. It can be NCAA, Club, Intramural, or any other organized sport. I'd like to see a high school try this. I know that there would certainly be exceptions for health reasons, but I think it would get a lot of kids active that get no exercise at all, plus it would add to the ranks of the varsity sports, where you might find some real talent that's been sitting on its butt.

This is actually in effect in either Louisville St. X or Trinity, or both, I can't remember...

It definately has nothing to do with facilities. The upgrades to SK and Dixie are due to need. The schools are much older and out of date than Scott, plus players don't go to schools because of the field, they go because of the program. I'm surprised, since we are talking about open enrollment, that no one has mentioned that Highlands had I believe 3, possibly 4 starters on their state championship team a few years ago that went through the South Kenton program and were scheduled to go to SK... The recent improvement over the last 2 years at SK has nothing to do with coaching, but simply they have players playing and not leaving, and for the first time they have people who actually want to play for them.. I do not believe Scott can follow this because it just happens to be a good group of kids these last few years, they need to follow the CC example and to start their improvement on the younger levels and keeping these kids in the program.

Scott High School as a whole tends to have a different type of kid than the other Kenton County Schools. These kids for whatever reason have an arrogance to them and can tend to be uncoachable. I've worked camps attended by Scott district kids and it could be seen even at a young age. If Scott was to eliminate this they would also have a better program, but the primary problem is that they are losing their kids to other schools. If the kids in the school could make the team better, then the coaches need to get to these kids and 1-on-1 let them know that by them playing the team won't "suck" and they could be big time players.

I disagree with you. The kids at Scott aren't arrogant and uncoachable. They just have lack of support is all.

Not sure what your mean by "arrogance". Is it arrogance or disdain for authority or something else? IMO, the only way to turn things around is from the inside out. They would have to establish some sort of football boosters club that would probably have to start with some concerned football parents, and I don't know if they have that kind of support in Taylor Mill right now.

I mean that players are more worried about themselves and looking good than about their program or school. I think it has a lot to do with parents and coaches, but also teachers need to do something, I've walked the halls at Scott during a school day before and noticed it even back then. Personally I don't know about their football coaches but they do have a great basketball coach in Coach Carr that won't allow players to be over arrogant.

I understand now what you mean. I don't know that teachers have a whole lot to do with it, but parents and coaches definitely need to get the point across that you join team sports programs to benefit the team. Three days ago I was talking to a guy who played BB at scott in the mid 90's (he was very good BTW and earned a scholarship) and he said that during games the other guys on his team would always talk about how many points they had in the middle of a game and would try to outscore one another at the cost of a team effort. He said he couldn't stand that and wished he had gone somewhere else. It sounds like some things never change, at least maybe not in Taylor Mill.....

The teacher point is just because it seems like the kids have this same feeling like they don't have to follow the rules even in school. Which I understand every school has the group of kids it just seemed to stand out more at Scott.... Sorry if I upset anyone earlier, I should have explained more in-depth

Coaching is not the problem at Scott, Casey Fisk does a great job and is perfect for the position. This is only his second year you have to give him some time.
