Highlands 49 Madison Central 3

Featured Replies

MC came out scared. Highlands hit them with that initial wave and they are down 20-0 before anyone blinks an eye. Maybe it was the atmosphere or the tradition of Highlands that intimidated them? I don't know but it seems like they come out flat/scared/with no heart no matter if they are playing Highlands, Whitley, Dunbar, or whoever. This team shows no emotion.

MC got out-played and out-coached last night. MC plays bad in the 1st and 3rd quarter of every game, thank god they are conditioned well for the 2nd and 4th quarters. MC has a lot of issues to take care of on both sides of the ball if they want to have a shot at winning at GRC and Lincoln.

On a side note, I watched Dale Mueller last night and it is no wonder Highlands is a top team in the state every year, the guy is a great coach.

I agree with you. :thumb:

I think he scored on a 40+ yard TD. He also had a very nice catch on the sideline before the half. I saw this kid before the game and I was impressed with him physically.

Highlands recievers as a unit are very good, they catch everything thrown near them.

He didn't score a td in the game....

I think it was 23 that made the catch on the sideline before half.

That closet was getting a little crowded

Sloppy, yes. Horrible, no. Interception, fumble, turnover on downs once or twice, TD called back on penalty, other penalties (ALL in the 1st HALF) qualify as sloppy. Defense lost intensity on the 1 drive where MC scored, but otherwise, played very well.

Also, what was up with the door to the locker room being locked so that MC spent the entire halftime in the endzone rather than locker room? It was oppened pretty quickly, but they stayed in the endzone. I guess they wanted to watch the homecoming festivities?

Thanks for the response. I guess that could qualify for a bit sloppy. But, as you pointed out, some things went well. :thumb:

I thought they played absolutley horrible.....They play like that against CovCath and they will get killed...VERY VERY SLOPPY!!!!!!!!! They better wake up.......:madman:

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I'm also entitled to point out where you opinion is wrong. And its wrong.

I thought they played a very good game. Perhaps some Highlands fans are getting spoiled. We had two fumbles; one we lost and one we didn't. The one we lost was caused by a helmet to football hit as Jordan was trying to do his magic once again. I'll take the occasional bad with the frequent good caused by Kramer's fantastic cutting ability. The other was caused by a low handoff to Conner. The one interception was caused by Cecil locking on to his primary receiver. He'll improve on that as he gets more experience. Remember, this young man was an olb last year, so if you expect him to perform like Carson Palmer in his first year of playing varsity qb, after playing olb last year, you are expecting way too much. People griped that we needed to pass the ball more and we did in this game (four td passes). If you are going to pass the ball a lot, its reasonable to expect an interception every now and then. Offense did just about anything they wanted, and accumulated over 500 yds. On the two fourth down attempts, both were on fourth and 5 and Dale was simply testing some things. Normally he'd kick the field goals and take the points (one a no doubter; the other one would have been very long), but he wanted to see some things and felt the game was in hand so he had the luxury of trying some stuff.

On the one decent drive that MC had (and we did hold them to a field goal), their big gains were when we went into a certain pass defense that we ran in that game for the first time. Its something Dale intends to use against CovCath and he wanted to run it a few times against MC. My guess is that he'll use it against Grant also a few times. We also at that time had one or two sophomores in at lb that don't normally start. Fitz was out due to his injury. And don't forget that MC came into the game averaging 40 points plus per game and we held them to 3. We also held them to 101 total yds, which has to be way below what they had been averaging.

Penalties weren't too bad at all. We did make a couple mental mistakes (2 false starts in one drive). Better execution needed I agree. We also had a holding penalty on one nice score by Kramer that was called back. Holding penalties can be called on every play if the ref wants to look for it. And what is seemingly okay on one play is a hold on the next. It's very tough to know what you can and can't do. But they are going to happen in every game and zero holding penalties on just about any level of football is a fluke.

If scoring 49 points (and it could have been 62 if Dale had kicked the two field goals on fourth down and the jv had not taken a knee with about 2 minutes left in the game), accumulating over 500 yds total offense, and holding a pretty good team averaging over 40 points a game is playing sloppy or is a game closer than the score indicates (as another poster posted), then obviously you are a very tough bunch to please.

Can we get better? Of course. Will CovCath be tough to beat? Of course. But I'd hesitate to call the performance sloppy, unless of course you have the unrealistic expectations that our offense score on every possession and that we shut out every high scoring team. At the end of the day, we beat a pretty good team in dominating manner. Not too shabby to this Highlands fan. Keep up the good work Birds and congrats for a very good game.

LN I mentioned in a later post that I was a liitle hard on the Birds. I just feel sometimes that they have the ability to do better. It seems like you always make excuses for their mistakes. I know a couple of games this year they should of won if it wasn't for those mistakes. Sometimes the glass is half empty not half full. They can't keep making stupid mistakes if they expect to win state this year..GO BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!

The Birds were just fine. I know they were showing and working on some things. I do know that Cov Cath had an off week. The Birds had this on in the bag early, and it was time to do a little rehersal for the Colonels.

LN....Highlands fans spoiled???? Say it ain't so!!

Henry..."traditional" would have been a better word than "true" as there is NO DOUBT Jordan Kremer is a TRUE running back by any definition. What a luxury to have BOTH!...and "mini-me Kremer" Clint Crawford is waiting in the wings!!
