Two great programs with great coaches, and the beat will go on for both. This senior class of CCH was labeled by some as one of their best ever three years with several college players in the fold. I expect them to have a deep run in the football playoffs (hopefully through December), and so it may take a little time for AJ, Lenny, and Michael to hit stride.

I heard he was enrolled but not playing but I'm sure your source is likely more accurate. Don't expect Hollis in a Newport uni this year. They still will send out a very good starting 5 that could knock off the big dogs.

He may be in the Newport school district still just not at the HS. Shame some of these talented kids don't take the school side of things more serious. Hollis would have made Newport or Holmes a serious contender with Cooper and Cov Cath.

Jake should be #1. He will be the biggest impact player in college. Would dominate in high school if he was used.

Cov cath has the advantage of no district and kids can come from anywhere to enroll. It's hard for Cooper to even transfer kids from within their district. No knock on cov cath but if they don't win it is an upset. They do have an advantage on the public schools.

That's a terrible observation. His ranking is based on his impact now not what he "might" be in college. He would definitely not dominate in high school or else he would rebound more and score more on putbacks. This kid is talented, though I don't see what Mack and Xavier see, and has been a good high school player but is ranked where he should be. His impact was minimal last year.

Just throwing out another idea, slightly reaching, but... I did do some digging though, and wonder how much the fact that Jake is a local kid plays in to him going to Xavier. Looking at rosters, NKU currently has 14 guys total. 8 of those are from KY and 3 are from less than 2 hours away. X has 13 total and I didn't mapquest them all but it looks like maybe 5 are local. I think it's very attractive to colleges to recruit locally and build their fan base in that way. Especially when you have so many D1 colleges in a central location. Looking at future potential and getting a local kid, I can definitely see why he was offered! Don't get me wrong, I think Jake has a ton of potential and wish him nothing but the best... just throwing it out there that there are more factors than just who is the best player when it comes to college recruiting.

I saw him on the AAU circuit a couple of times this year; he seemed pretty solid to me. Nothing wows you but he played very solid against some pretty good competition. Size matters also.

Don't get me wrong, I love to see local kids shine and play around here. But how many butts would one kid really put in the seats? As for Jake, didn't see him play last year. But you can't teach size. He has a D1 body. If he is lacking the skill set, X sees something in him that than can teach. They are making a pretty solid investment by recruiting him and want him for his skill set and size, not to add a few local patrons at the game.

Like I said, I think Jake has a ton of potential. But millions of kids in the country have a ton of potential and my guess is that if you're looking at Player A and Player B, who are virtually the same, but Player A lives across the river and Player B lives in Miami, FL, it's not hard to guess who gets the offer. Just trying to demonstrate that there are other factors for the multiple people who said they don't understand what Xavier sees in Jake... I see it and agree with it.

 

You're right, colleges aren't throwing away scholarships to get a local kid. Here is an idea though, if a college has a long standing tradition of not supporting local basketball, not even considering kids that come from their state or surrounding area, then out of nowhere comes an All-American that lives right down the road, it's doubtful he even considers that school. Roles reversed, little Johnny watches his local high school hero go and play for the college down the street then 10 years late little Johnny is that All-American, what a steal for that local college who Johnny has loved his whole life. Like I said, just trying to show how there are multiple factors, Athletics and Academics are the obvious ones... I just believe location is one as well.

Walter fits with the model rotation Mack wants to play. The fact that he is a local kid is a bonus.

 

He's a young senior - I think this will be (by far) his most productive year of HS ball and it could be he has more of an impact at XU. I am confident his best basketball is ahead of him.

The KHSAA rules are the same for everyone. CovCath does not have any advantages over Cooper, only self-imposed rules by their local school district that are above and beyond the KHSAA rules.
