I have no idea how many players were involved, but how can any of them be viewed as academically eligible to play? This doesn't seem much different than having someone take your SAT for you so you can qualify.

Worse. The SAT is one test to allow you to get into school. Imagine not having to take any tests when you get there. Ludicrous.

NCAA decision today absolutely ludicrous. Supefyingly ridiculous.

 

I was one of the last defenders of the NCAA. Not everything they did mind you, but a defender of the concept behind the NCAA and, I guess, an apologist for the difficulty in doing what they try to do.

 

But this is idiocy that is quite impossible to grasp, believe, or accept. UNC was caught red-handed making a mockery of academic integrity - theoretically, why these schools exist to begin with - but apparently, "blue blood" trumps integrity.

 

The NCAA, frankly, just forfeited any right to credibility.

This just may have solved USF's student attendance problems at football games.

 

Think of it. A set of 3 credit hour elective classes in "Football Game Day Experience", I, II, III, and IV. Tailgate, get drunk, attend the games, raise hell and get 12 credits over 4 years.

 

Then again, maybe not. The bad part under the NCAA ruling, is that the students would not have to actually show up at the games.

I think that's probably genuine. I think the NCAA has far too often let its reach exceed its grasp. The real problem is that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of American Universities has had almost nothing to say about these bogus classes affecting UNC's accreditation.

Your friend does have a point. Thats why this investigation stuff shouldnt be made public, unless there is a finding of guilt. I would venture a guys UNC did lose some recruits, which may or may not have lost UNC money in the long run.

Heck, the AAU kicked out Nebraska a few years ago because too much of their research funding was coming from the Department of Agriculture. This should be massively embarrassing to an origination that far up its own backside.

 

In the end, I'm sure any number of AAU schools have bogus classes that they don't want coming into the limelight either, so best to just pretend it's not there.

UNC never recruited one and dones/ 5 stars. Hell they never real showed interest in John Wall and he was in there backyard. They also went to 2 NC and won 1 since they've been under investigation, I don't want to hear they lost recruits over this. That's complete garbage.

He didn’t say they lost recruits to other schools. He said the NCAA prevented them from going after five star recruits for the last three years. There was no such prohibition.

 

Truth is that Williams hasn’t won a lot of recruiting wars in the last eight or so years. It started before the scandal broke. What Williams has done is a good job of developing mature teams into contenders and winners.

When UL gets hammered for this Adidas thing, they should seriously think about suing the NCAA.

Stop it right there. There were several who went elsewhere, most notably Brandon Ingram who said he was ready to commit to Carolina until the news they were under investigation broke. To think they weren’t/aren’t recruiting those guys is asinine.
