Just seeing the six classes in the state of Kentucky turns my stomach. For all the "opportunity" this watered down system creates, think of all of the good potential match ups it eliminates. No more Danville/Beechwood or Highlands/Lexington Catholic to name two. I HATE IT!

Beechwood should have moved up, not too many more strong programs in AA, and only one or two other "elite" teams they didn't play in A. I would rather see both Beechwood and Mayfield move up, I would rather see Beechwood and Mayfield continue to battle NewCath and Danville for a state tilte.

 

I, too, would have liked to have seen both Beechwood and Mayfield move up, but, just because a school may want too, doesn't mean they would be allowed to...alot of it depends on # of teams left in the district you're leaving and the # of teams you would have in the new district you're going to...I know for Mayfield, they would have been leaving a district with only 4 teams and would have been the 6th in the 2a district...KHSAA wouldn't have allowed it...The same may be said for Beechwood..i'm not that familiar with there districts in that area...

I'll bet that the "playing up" option gets dropped. They used to have it in Louisiana and discontinued it a few years ago for the same reasons that were posted on this thread.

For the record, my team is in 5A. I think it will be the most competitive district in 5A with HHS,CCH,Holmes and Dixie. The winner will earn the district title for sure. I think that 5A as a whole will be an awesome place to be. I like the 4A system we have better, and am not scared of T or X. I prefer having to earn accolades, and in the new district, we will still have to earn what we get. So 4A or 5A I don't much care, either way it won't be easy. Either way we will be an underdog. And either way we will have to be an excellent team to win a title so I could care less what class we're in. Let's just play.

Sorry, I guess i was misinformed

You as a general football fan would like to see CovCath or Highlands move up and that is understandable.

 

You as a fan, coach, administrator, or supporter of a 5A school that could be in contention for a state championship but year after year are denied (defeated) by teams moving into your class might not like to see it.

 

Methinks that if Highlands (public, but pretty much distained like a private) or CovCath (private) wins 5A in 2007 and 2008 while Trinity or St. X (private) wins 6A in 2007 and 2008 its back to the drawing board for classification.:scared:

 

You need to understand I am not a general football fan. I am a graduate of Rockcastle Co and we have played both of these teams over the last few years as most people know. Highlands beat us the first time but we returned the favor. If you can't beat the best you don't deserve to be state champs. IMO

It really sucks that Bardstown and Danville are in the same district next year. And that's all I have to say about that.
