Pelle not being in the top 10 is absolutley absurd! He should be right up there behind Miller and Knowles. This really doesnt make me want to go out and waste money on this junk.

The Cats Pause rankings come out every single year, and there is always going to be some complaints. Yeah it's nice to see where they think everybody stands, but really though, who cares? It's all a bunch of names on paper. Do you get an award for being a top 10 player? No. Do you automatically make it to the Regional Tournament if your team is in the top 8? NO. Every different ranking is somebody else's different opinion. It simply does not matter. I would much rather be at the top of the list at the end of the season opposed to the beggining of the season.

I agree 100% Bird Man, last season in the 14th Jackson City was ranked pre-season #16 and ended up #2, losing to Hazard in the finals of Region, by 7 points (57-50). Pre-season rankings mean nothing, but who people "THINK" are the best, 2nd best, and so on. As far as individual rankings, the entire team must win each game, not just 1 single person. This may help with scholarships and publicity, but if you are ranked pre-season #1 and your team does'nt win the regional tournament, then you probably should'nt have been number 1. The best player is someone who can lead there team to Rupp in March. You will see this in some regions, but very few.

Most of the writers for the Cat's Pause pre-season rankings probably do very little research to determine their rankings, unless it's their own region. The 14th region is usually off the mark imo. But it's still a good thing, as far as I'm concerned, because it does lead to discussion and debate.

The 10th region ratings are a joke. Miller and Knowles are the only 2 that should be ahead of Pelle. The 9th ratings are reflection of a coaches rating, but the 10th is one person's opinion. Look for Pelle to prove people wrong, as he is coming off a great junior year and great summer with Shining Stars.

Second, I have some real doubts on the player & team rankings.

 

Russ Middleton is not a top 10 player, especially in front of Uebel from Brossart, Pelle from SG, or Sharp from Scott. What teams does Dumphord, Talbott, and Owens play for?

 

Pendleton Co is not the 6th best team in the region. Bourbon Co and Scott will beat PC this year.

 

Who rated these players and teams? They did not do their homework.

 

I do not know how you cant have Middleton in your top 10. He played very well for the top team in the 10th last year. As for Pendleton, while they wont be as good as last year, they will still be very competitive.

Does anyone have a Silver Grove schedule? I'm interested in seeing this kid play if he's that good because Middleton is a good player.

No PC did not have any transfers come in. But like I said earlier they will not be as bad as some people may think. In the 10th this year, after you get past the top 3 or 4, you can throw the rest of the teams in a hat.

 

IMO, Middleton is better than those three and should probably be rated higher.
