Is This Blocked Kick Illegal?

Featured Replies

Anyone else notice that this game feature the Dons v. the Cavemen? How bizarre?

If you're playing against this team, I guess you tell your center to stand up & block (i.e., no hand on ground) after the long snap AND make sure the officiating crew knows NFHS Rule 2 Section 21 cited by LangerCat above!!!

I think the hurdling rule is a joke, as long as the kid doesn't touch the center and isn't jumping off the back of his own player then the play should be legal... Does the hurdling rule mean that a ball carrier can not jump over a tackler???

It's not a joke, it's a safety issue...

Just imagine the center straightening up just in time to catch a front kick (with a cleated foot, no less) to the head...:creepy:

Hurdling is an attempt by a player to lump with one or both feet or knees foremost over an opponent who is contacting the round with no part of his body except one or both feet.

This play was illegal and the defender who blocked the kick definetly hurdled his opponent. The penalty is 15 yards for a personal foul.

you better look at that play again, great play by the defender no foul!

Is lumping ever legal? ;):D

I am very sure it is on the ground. Look at the video again. And about the simulated snap yeah in a normal situation you would stand up and block, but because he didn't stand up immediately he needed his hand on the ground to stabalize him or else he would've fallen over. Its science....

..

I'm not sure of what science was taught at SK. However, as one who has actually been the center on extra points and FGs, let me tell you that you do not need to put your hand back down to stabilize yourself. Try it. I can snap it , keep my head down for ten minutes, and never touch the ground with my hands.

This kid IMO did not meet the definiton that would exclude it from being a hurdle.

In college it is a penalty if you jump and come down on another player. It cost LSU big in a loss to Auburn two years ago. It was a new rule for that season. So I'm assuming that this kid propeled himself off of (looks like it to me) the opposing player, a violation. In addition he could be flagged for falling on an opposing player after the block (yes, its still a violation if you get the ball).

I knew a few guys who got thrown out of a game for lumping.:D

Ha science at SK.... anywho, yeah i know that you don't need your hand down, but after i typed it i didn't feel like deleting it and didn't plan on anyone calling me out on it, but i guess i didn't get it past you. But about the actual play, i saw a hand on the ground, if you didn't see it fine, but in my eyes it isn't a penalty. Besides the actual rule, a play that awesome cannot be a penalty, its SK science....:ylsuper:

If he actually jumped over the center, I think its legal. If he propelled off the center's back, then I think its a penalty. Don't hold me to it though...

You got me on my typo. lumping = jumping.

Actually, the foul is for hurdling, and this player hurdled the snapper. No getting around it. Now, which official saw it to call it? The Referee is not looking that way, he is protecting the kicker and holder. The HL on the far sideline is looking down the line, but he could not see it from his angle. The umpire is probably too close to the play to see this. The LJ andBJ are under the goal post to rule on the kick, which never made it that far. Either of them probably could have made this call. But it's not something you see as an official, and that's not really a good excuse for missing it.

One person claims it was so athletic it should not be called. There are lot's of people who could hurdle the snapper, so it was not that great of athletic ability. It should have been called a foul.
