He posted an hour ago that it was $5.1 million now with a new goal of $6 million. I'm making a donation after I click submit.

I just passed through customer service where I work. One of the young ladies there told me it was nearing $5.5 million.

As of 11:30 this morning they are tallying the official death toll at 20. More deaths are expected.

I wonder how many of these are from people who tried to drive through high water.

I know there's been at least one police officer death and at least two rescue workers have went missing. Just such an awful, tragic scene down there. The devastation is unreal to see.

I am paying attention more now than I did with Katrina, but this just feels worse. Not really sure if it is.

There may well be more rainfall associated with this one, but I think the fact that New Orleans and the surrounding area were below sea level was what will continue to make Katrina the worse hurricane disaster.

25 deaths associated with Harvey.

Watt's fundraiser is up to $7.6M

The stats are crazy. The amount of rain that fell from Harvey would put Ohio in 32" of water. Harvey had 14-15 trillion gallons of rain, Katrina was 6.5 trillion gallons.

There were a host of factors that led to the horrific disaster that was Katrina, some that were decisions made decades before the event. Other decisions made during and I'm mediately after the events contributed as well.

To be fair, hindsight is 20/20. What we learned during Katrina has undoubtedly helped us prepare, respond and recover in the events that followed.

My boss just called me from Dallas (not Houston). They are running out of gas. She had to go to 3 different stations and is now in a long long waiting to full up.

I have a friend in Houston. They were told to shelter in place. They were fine for a couple of days, but decided to go ahead to another friend's house who lived at a higher elevation. On Wednesday, they made it back to their house (via boat) but couldn't get in because the water was too high. Yesterday they went back. As you can imagine, the ground floor is a total loss. Their refrigerator and clothes dryer "floated" over. Her vinyl collection...ruined. (I thought about you, @ADopted ADmiral.) Sewage in the house. I am so happy that she is safe, but I hurt for her and her family.

They keep showing all of these folks sitting in flood waters or wading in the houses or streets. All of that water is backed up from sewers and septic systems it is filthy and dangerous.

This post is a bit on the lighter side...

Ever seen the joke about the Northers guide to the South and the item that said:

If you are ever stuck in a ditch just wait a bit and some good-ol-boys will show up with a jacked-up truck and tow-rope. Just get out of their way its what they live for.

That applies to the National Guard as well:
