Bluegrasscard
It may not be Skynet yet, but the machines are getting busy - creating their own language and creating better versions of themselves. Facebook bots start talking to each other in non-human language: Facebook AI robot shut down after developing its own language | Metro News "Scientists have switched off Facebook’s robot because it has reportedly created its own language. Researchers noticed that Artificial Intelligence they had created has started to make up their own code words. Initially it looks like absolute gibberish, but it became clear that the machines – nicknamed Bob and Alice – were actually communicating with one another. In a Frankenstein twist on their research, the robot abruptly stopped using English and could only be understood by other AI." Google AI is creating...more and better AIs.... Google's AI tech can now learn, replicate on its own - CNET "Put away your machine learning degrees -- artificial intelligence is now at the stage where it's ready to replicate and improve on itself, according to Google. Googlers have designed AIs that are capable of "learning to learn," said CEO Sundar Pichai, speaking Wednesday at Google I/O, the company's annual developer's conference in Mountain View, California." Jumper_Dad
I watched a program this week that said that Japan currently has 126,000,000 people and that by 2050 they would be under 100,000,000 losing 900,000 per year, with the population projected to drop as low as 50,000,000 over the next 100 years. They are developing life like Robots now to do some menial task to replace workers and do other "Task", they are straight up creepy.
theguru
Let's face it, we are to the Skynet stage of history. When you add in AI doing its own thing which has been predicted by many great minds, along with advanced drone technology we do have Skynet. The only thing missing is bipedal machines are still rough around the edges but in the next ten years they will be every bit the Terminator and more. When you add all of this together it is simply a question of who controls the machines. Now I want you to watch this Drone Racing Video. Remember, these are commercial versions. Could you imagine the Military versions with weapons attached hunting you down. It is reality...

Getslow
Like a smart guy once said: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."
Bluegrasscard
And at the small level of the spectrum.... These tiny modular ‘microbots’ can change shape to capture single cells | TechCrunch The researchers refer to the polymer cubes as “microbot origami,” tiny, modular objects that can be reconfigured into countless shapes. Each cube has a single side covered in a metallic coating, allowing researchers to manipulate their shape and movement using a series of electromagnet that surround the microscope. Robot taught itself never seen before chess moves in hours | Daily Mail Online The part of this I find funny is the hand wringing over Great Britain's National Health Service becoming more efficient at what it already does, deciding who gets care and who doesn't. If you are going to have a public healthcare system that can't treat everyone, doesn't it make sense to successfully treat as many as possible by ruling out care for the high risk patients?
