Who's the biggest "Homer" radio personality you know?

Featured Replies

I don't remember his name, but the guy who did the Highlands/Boyle Co. state game in 2004 LOVED the Smith's and Boyle. I can't tell you how many times he said how godly Brandon Smith was and how he was just having a bad game. It seemed like no matter how good Highlands did, it wasn't because they were the better team. It was because Boyle made a mistake...

Being a Admiral fan I like charlie Perry, but I love listening to the guys calling the game over at Mayfield especially the X Coach for Mayfield!

One can be the official voice of a team without being a homer. If a play-by-play announcer is using words like "we" or "us" then he is a homer. I can't listen to homers very long despite the picture they paint.

You must like listening to comments about college football or the Pittsburgh Steelers more than the actual description of the Danville game.

Your talking about Paul Leahy...He definately bleeds Black and Red...I love listening to him and PBPMAN...They can get me rolling, at times.. You have to understand though, Coach Leahy has spent many years in the Mayfield program as a teacher, Asst Coach under Jack Morris for over 20 years and then was Head coach from 93 to 98, before retiring, so, i guess he has a right or maybe an obligation to show a little homerism...

To me its perfectly acceptable, even preferable for a High School annoucer to be a homer. Having coached all over the south I've heard some great ones!

When it gets to college and pro broadcasts the announcers should be more analytical and un biased, but for HS, I love the pictures a homer paints as he relates to the listening audience the trails and successes of his High School team!

IMO your description , while applicable to college and pro announcers, does not apply to volunteer high school announcers. I fully expect and do not have a problem with announcers who say "we" at the high school level.

As does the goherd - Ashland hatefest. :D

No hate here...just extreme nausea brought on by the constant fawning over Ashland done by some Raceland posters...:creepy:

FYI, from dictionary.com...

fawn – verb (used without object) 1. to seek notice or favor by servile demeanor: The courtiers fawned over the king.

Hands-down it's Mr. Dickie Martin. It's a no brainer here... As far as play-by-play announcing, there are few, if any, better than Mr. Martin. If he would keep his insults and slandering of the opposing team and most of all the officials to himself and just announce the game as he sees it, he would be in a class by himself. He does a tremendous job of painting a mental image of the game in one's mind. He's the best that I've heard anywhere around here and quite possibly one of the best in the state at giving play-by-play annoucements. It's the bias opinions and insults I think everyone could do without.

UKCATSFAN, that is how he sees the game. Dickie is a good guy. He would give you the shirt off his back and would tell you how it is too. He loves Ashland, just like everyone else loves their home and team. Like its been said, you either love him or hate him, but you cant argue where his loyalties lie or that hes the best there is.

Keep up the Good work Dickie,

Yoter

As far as your hatred towards Ashland, I'll go with my first instincts on that one.
