I see the Raceland - Ashland lovefest continues...

ttt

No hate here...just extreme nausea brought on by the constant fawning over Ashland done by some Raceland posters[/i]

Refer to post #47.

Dickie Martin is the best I have ever heard call a high school ballgame. He is 2nd generation "Voice of the Tomcats" too. Love him or hate him, but when you listen to his broadcasts, you know what's going on. I have listened to many other area radio sports broadcasters and IMO, there is a huge gap between the quality of No 1 and second place.

:thumb: You are so right painter.

Dickie Martin
They had a nice little discussion about this thread on the broadcast tonight. He seemed rather honored. ;)
I'm sure Dickie rubs some opponents fans the wrong way.... But, I for one am glad he's a Tomcat!

Keep up the good work Dickie!!! :ylsuper:

I have heard Dickie Martin get on his own beloved Tomcats and Coaches just as well as he has gotten on opponets at times.

I said that he was good and I liked listening to him, but now his head will swell even more  He will not be able to fit in the radio booth

He's talking about it again right now.

He says his dad was a bigger homer than he is.

He is probably right!!

This is the first time I've ever listened to him, and I think he's doing a great job! He seems very professional.

*See, now that I know he's going to be reading this, I just want him to know we're not all bashers out here in cyberland. ;)

You must like listening to comments about college football or the Pittsburgh Steelers more than the actual description of the Danville game.

hehe!

:thumb: I also enjoy listening to Dickie Martin, imo he is by far the best play by play man in h.s. football and basketball that I have heard. Yes, he is a homer but I can deal with that. He has been the play by play man for the Ashland Tomcats for many years and he should be a homer. I can block out all of his extra comments and take them with a grain of salt. They really do not bother me, his play by play more than makes up for it.

Agreed! The only thing keeping him from being elite is his overboard bias views. I can understand being a little bias, every announcer is, but you still need to give an objective view of thing such as penalties and such. If Ashland commits a penalty, it's because it was a "horrible call" or a "phantom flag" and not because they actually commited a penalty. That gives the listener the wrong impression and picture of what is happening at the game. I don't think anyone disagrees that his play-by-play skills are top notch but I think this 1 characteristic keeps him from being elite in my book and a few other's book.

By the way, I brought the headsets tonight, and St. X's announcers were great.
