July 27, 20179 yr Sorry Bench and Doc, but I just don't see it happening. I know good golfers that have played at some of the, what are considered easier tour stop courses and walk away stunned at how hard the course was. Joe Blow 4-some from Brethitt County, or Paducah, or Lawrenceburg just aren't going to compete...they just aren't.What do you think a realistic score would be then?
July 27, 20179 yr What do you think a realistic score would be then? Hummm...well that would be a little course dependent. Somewhere like TPC Deere Run (John Deere Classic) where they go crazy low most every year and is a birdie fest...-18 won it this year...scramble team MIGHT be around par, might even have a chance to break par, but it would only be for 2 rounds cause that wouldn't make the cut (I think -4 was the cut line this year if I read it right). Go to the other extreme and play a US open course, I shudder to think what a score might look like.

We'll beat your 2 under on Deere Run. So i'll guarantee 3. I'd bet my house on it. I've played quite a few PGA courses. Valhalla and other "tough courses" included. I am supremely confident in my guarantees.

Well, for one thing it's all in fantasy land because the PGA or USGA isn't going to let your 4-some, my 4-some, Spindoc's 4-some or anyone else's 4-some play in the John Deere Classic, The Players Championship, the US Open or any other PGA event. And remember, this is taking your 4-some and playing against the pros IN the event, not taking a 4-some on some Saturday afternoon playing from the member tee's set up with members length rough and green speeds. So, one, it will never happen. And two, no you can't convince me that any of our 4-somes could be competitive.

You have every right in the world to be comfortable with your inability to be correct on this matter.
July 27, 20179 yr BigV, I'm curious as to exactly where you thing the foursomes are going to be losing the strokes. Do you think 1 out of 4 can't hit the fairway off the tee? If they do find the rough, do you think 1 out of 4 can't hit it out of there? Do you think 1 out of 4 can't get their ball to stick on the green? Or, do you think 1 out of 4 can't make a put? I can understand where you're coming from if it was simply Joe Golfer vs. the PGA. It ain't gonna happen. But giving 4 different guys a crack at it, with basically no penalty (with the exception of the last guy, if the first 3 all fail), I think changes the game quite a bit.

I think the game the PGA guys play is so much different than what we play it's not even the same game. And even many of those guys are humbled on any given weekend. Shots are going to be dropped in a lot of places, take your pick. I think a goal of breaking 80 should be what's set and what to strive for...THAT'S possible. Shooting in the 60's, what would pretty much have to be done 2 days in a row to make a cut, or shooting low 60's one of the first 2 rounds with an average 2nd round...nope, I can't see it.
July 27, 20179 yr Aren't you the same guy that said you could've held your own in basketball in the Olympics back in your prime? :lol2: Nope...I said I could have taken the floor with the 92 DT (or in my prime, can't remember exactly how it was worded) in an early round game and not have embarrassed myself. Little bit of a difference. And just like we will never know the answer to that question, we will never know the answer to this question. Edited July 27, 20179 yr by BigVMan23

Once again, I'll agree with you that it may be a different game. The holes may be longer, the fairways narrower, the rough thicker, and the greens quicker. And yes, it does humble many of the pros. I just think the odds are in the foursome's favor. They don't ALL have to hit a good drive...just 1 of them. Same thing with the approach shots, and the putts. I put my Steady Eddie up front, and let him put the ball in play, even if it's short and safe. Then let the other 3 take some chances.

I'm gonna probably guess every player on the 4some isn't good at everything, which is probably a safe guess. So Tom might be able to hit it a mile off the tee (but not always straight more than likely)...but can't putt to save his. So if that's the case that really brings you down to at best 3 tries on the green cause Tom isn't going to help. Mack is a pretty good putter but can't hit the ball out of his shadow off the tee. Same deal in reverse. Go on down the line. And chipping/pitching? Forget about it. I think the chances of the 4some hitting any given shot "good" in the given conditions is pretty low, less than 50% in my mind. Not an average shot...a good shot...which is what's going to have to happen to compete, they are going to have to hit a LOT of good, and at times very good shots. And remember too, this 4some has 2 or 3 PGA tour players standing around watching them play, not to mention thousands in the gallery. It's a fun thought, but it would be a struggle.

All three hit the ball 300 + and have good iron games and would not be intimidated in the least by PGA layouts. And definitely not in a scramble vs one format. You're WAY off base in your thinking in my opinion.
