June 27, 20179 yr Nothing stopped them from competing. Plenty of them did. The state junior am golf tourney is this week and KHSAA golfers cant wear school unis and cant use golf bags with their school logos. .... Yet somehow everyone will manage. That does bring up an interesting question. If school officials aren't involved why can't kids wear a shirt with school logo or use bags with the school logo? Is this just one of those black and white rules just to make it easier to enforce?

Because there is a chance the school was involved in buying or acquiring those shirts or bags (which would then fall under use of school equipment).
June 27, 20179 yr I think he means if they use the official team page/account to do it. I don't see how it would be a big deal if the players did it individually on their personal pages. Players can organize it. Team can't send out tweet, post photo or message or else iy would be perceived as team being involved. If the players spread the word themselves and want to do that, more power to them.
June 27, 20179 yr Why don't they just make up a name like the Central Hardin Sliders, name someone else "head" coach and compete anyways?
June 28, 20179 yr Why don't they just make up a name like the Central Hardin Sliders, name someone else "head" coach and compete anyways? Kinda how it works in AAU basketball …
June 28, 20179 yr Why don't they just make up a name like the Central Hardin Sliders, name someone else "head" coach and compete anyways? The official results listed them as Central Hardin Lady Bruins. I think the issue was more about not having their coach or uniforms than the name itself. Like I said earlier, there were more than a dozen KHSAA schools represented at bowling nationals. Haven't heard any horror stories because of dead period limitations, so I am going to assume everyone found a way to manage. This all stems from the program or the original poster not knowing or not caring for the dead period rules, which have been in place for a while now and aren't likely to get an overhaul any time soon.
June 29, 20179 yr So next weekend there is a big AAU "National" boys basketball tournament in Indy. For those that thought the KHSAA should have signed a waiver for the CH girls bowling team, should Ballard, Scott County, BG, etc. ask for a waiver to go play in Indy, and should the KHSAA sign it? I mean, to be consistent, you would have to answer "yes", correct?

If the a national tournament is a "high school" national tournament then I think the KHSAA should support kids participation. I realize it may get murky determining if the tournament is scholastically based. I would suggest who the sponsoring organization may be an indicator. Also the inclusion of club teams and/or the ability to participate either individually (the word unattached is used in track and swimming) separate from a high school team or high school coach is probably the key. Just my 2 cents.
June 29, 20179 yr Tell me again what the point of the dead period is if all these schools are playing in tournaments. Is it so the coach can take a vacation. It has nothing to do with the kids, correct? So how did the kids from Kentucky do in the national bowling tournament? And were the bowling nationals an invitation only? If so, what kind of qualifications are required if there are more than a dozen schools just from Kentucky.

St. Xavier's Brandon Flora was the national runner-up, while Russell County's Zach Kean also made it to the Sweet 16. Don't believe the girls did nearly as well, but the results aren't updated: 2017 U.S. High School Bowling National Championship - 2017 USHSBNC As far as qualifying for nationals, there were several levels of "bids", kind of like the 7,320,243 varieties of cheerleading "nationals"
