Shame on the KHSAA - Central Hardin Lady Bruins Bowling Team

Featured Replies

Actually it literally does affect another sport, archery. The world tournament this year is July 22nd, 2 years ago it was the same, 3 years ago it started July 11th, ect... Even if the tournament doesn't fall in the dead period the teams can't practice leading up to it.

Again, like This bowling event, it's not a sanctioned or sponsored KHSAA event, nor is it even a NFHS event. Plus it falls outside of the normal season for the sport. As far as I know, no other sports contest a National or world championship event at the high school level, and those that do are sponsored by separate organizations. I'm not sure I understand why exceptions should be made of these two sports. Wrestlers seem to do fine on their own preparing for national competitions without their high school coaches.

I know why they are there, lived with them from beginning. They still need to reconsider sports that finish in the dead period. No coaches, no practices, no home uniforms.

What sports finish in the dead period??

Bowling is a winter sport. Their state championship was in February. Their season has been over for 4 months. The last KHSAA sport was baseball. Their state championship was the second weekend of June. Dead period doesn't overlap any sports.

and these young ladies can compete without sanctioning of the KHSAA.

No, these young ladies cannot wear their home school uniform, no practices, no coaches unless sanctioned by KHSAA.

Did not know high school teams were not allowed to compete in National Championships and wear school's uniforms.

They can compete without CH unis, they can "practice" on their own and someone other then the school employed coach can "coach" them.

They do it every summer.

Problem with this sport, the Nationals are not in June. I know I read all about Nationals being not allowed that you explained.

Again wrestlers manage to compete at and practice for national tourneys without their high school coaches or school singlets. There's a really big one in Fargo in a few weeks, and it's really important in the college recruiting process. Guys will be preparing just fine the entire dead period without their high school coaches or using high school facilities.

Again, it's not a NFHS event, it's not part of the regular high school season and pretty much no other sport (aside from Archery it seems) holds a National Championsip event.

After reading your post, None. Thank you for being so informative. I did not know that if a team made the Nationals in any sport, it would never be sanctioned.

I'm not sure why it should matter if it's sanctioned or not? It's a part of the archery season. If the KHSAA is going to make them abide by the dead period then they need to make exceptions for the events that are directly affected by it.

Again, I refer to wrestling. Fargo, which is one of the biggest offseason events in the sport and plays a huge role in college recruiting takes place in Mid July (In fact much of college wrestling recruiting takes place based on a few national events). Wrestlers will be practicing all through the dead period without their high school coaches without the use of high school facilities. You could make the argument that wrestlers are just as affected or even affected more by the dead period. However, they all manage to do just fine. These types of events have no bearing or impact on the high school, season which ended almost 5 months ago. Sorry, it's not part of the season, just like the wrestling events I mentioned are not part of their season. The KHSAA isn't preventing the athletes from competing in these events. I see no reason to get worked up about adhering to dead period rules. We complain all the time about the KHSAA being arbitrary with some of their rule enforcement, but yet we want to kill them when they do enforce a rule.

Yes, the kids on the archery team could practice on their own except most don't have their own equipment. A lot of them use school bows, targets, and arrows. Not to mention where do they practice if they have the equipment. Unless they practice at their school's facilities they can't practiceYes they could go in the back yard but that isn't practicing tournament conditions. I never killed the KHSAA for enforcing their rule. I simply asked why can't there be an exception for the few sports / activities that are negatively affected.

Got to be honest...if you are doing archery and don't have your own equipment, targets and practicing on your own, then you probably aren't going to the nationals anyway, at least not as a competitor.
