HC always puts a good squad out and the court and you can always bank on a few upsets form their club.

Newport is considered a sleeper every year but with the senior class they just graduated I look for them to struggle. To not get anywhere with that senior group of Glenn, Thomas, Llanes, Atkins, and Jones is quite disappointing.

I really didn't think Eifert was that tall, he must have been a lot taller than I thought.

I'm gonna say Dixie will be a sleeper this year.

 

How can Dixie be a sleeper? Put them in the Region right now, as with Ludlow, Lloyd, Villa in the 34th (remember, this isn't baseball, where one pitcher can make a difference) how will they ever not make it into the 9th Region Tournament. I have said it before, and I will say it again, one of the worst basketball districts, in the Commonwealth.....

Holmes and Covcath will obviously be the favorites.

 

Holmes returns the most talent in Rice, Jefferson, Henderson, and Hill. Don't forget Hill was POY last year and he now has Rice down low with him so teams can't key on him.

 

Covcath is...well Covcath. They will have depth, size, and team ability to win the region every year.

 

After this there is a considerable drop off but not much. HC IMO is the only team that I could see making it out of the region and that is a far stretch. They could maybe knock one of the big two off (CCH, Holmes), but I don't see them being able to upset both in the same season.

Rice coming back is huge, but last year in the district and regional tournament it seemed like Holmes struggled against a well-packed zone, especially when no one could hit from outside. With the loss of Edmonson, someone will need to improve their consistency behind the arc.

That's a good point. And really Austin is the only one on that team that can consistently knock down outside shots. A box and 1 would be a good defense to run against them. 4 guys sit in zone and have your best defender chase Austin around and deny him the ball. Also you cant be reluctant to take the ball to the basket ( no matter how many times you get blocked ) these kids are agressive and can get in to foul trouble. Also another point that should be brought up is how will this team ( especially Duran ) be handled by the refs this year. You dont want to get on the badside of some of these zebras, they do remember.

Agreed, but at least Edmonson had the reputation of a shooter, making teams reluctant to sit back in a zone.

 

Edmonson's perimeter shooting and Lexie Brown's interior prescence are what made the team so dangerous in 04-05, and even partly overshadowed Austin Hill's impact that season.

AMEN!! When the districts were redone it was Christmas coming early for Dixie.:thumb:

Eifert and Sullivan are a legit 6'5, maybe 6'6. Jontai Scruggs alway bangs down low. I'm looking forward to seeing Sullivan play, I really think playing football this year is going to help his aggressiveness down low. HC has some good guards with shooting ability and size with Sorrell and Ryan both taller than 6 ft. I think they make it out of the district with CCH.

A joke? I'm pretty sure it said "I think". I think there's a chance Holmes doesn't get along all season or all five starters don't finish the season and they don't make it out of the district.

They don't have to. They could in reality have the three teams split in the regular season. That could lead to them not having to play one of them until the district final which means they don't have to win that game. Then they have to beat one of them in the regional final if they both get that far.
