Which is not enough. He should be playing a majority of the JV games, unless coach Chev doesn't plan to use him on varsity at all in the future. Size is something that has hurt Dixie in the past, especially last year when Kiernan had his way in the regional game. I can't remember the kids name from a few years ago, but he improved drastically from his sophomore year to his senior year from playing summer ball as he sat the bench during JV games. He could've been that much better with the playing experience he should've obtained at the JV level.

o well they still compete pretty well with some of the top programs

I would contend that there was no consistent outside threat last year.

 

Jefferson and Hill are both actually pretty good shooters but nobody really knows because they have more of an attack the rim mentality. With Braeon Avery and Kejuan Arnold splitting time at the point w/ DJ this year, you'll see a lot more 3's taken by both DJ and Hill.

Austin yes but I have never considered Duran to be a good shooter. Taking nothing away from his game because everyone knows he is a great player but I dont think anybody really fears his outside shot.

I only saw Dixie play once last season, in December against SK and Mace only played a minute or so, I couldn't believe he didn't even dress for the JV game, the kid is huge but he needs to play at some level, if not on the varsity level, play him in the JV games.

Holy Cross would be considered my underdog....everyone is already filling out their REgional champ as Cov Cath or Holmes but with the guard play of Holy Cross and their size down low... they will be a really good team come tourney time. Jimmy Ryan and Giwa sounds like a great tandem...not sure of the depth though at that position so that may be a factor.

They always seem to play Covcath close but can never get over that hump.

Holmes has blown them out 4 of the past 5 meetings. The one win coming when Lexie Brown got hurt.

 

Jim Ryan is no doubt a player, but Giwa seem lost at times. Jefferson abused him last year when HC and Holmes met. I think he had 4 or 5 turnovers in one half alone. Giwa just isn't aggressive enough.

As far as being big down low, yes i agree. But Eifert isn't the most coordinated kid. He WON'T be able to guard Rice of Holmes.

 

IMO Holy Cross SHOULD only lose 2 games to nky teams all year... Covcath and Holmes. HC just hasn't found a way to get over the hump yet against either. But with the talent Holmes has coming back this year, I really don't see Holy Cross or any other team (w/ the exception of CCH) being able to play with them.

Lots of talk about Ryan, Giwa & Eifert when talking about Holy Cross. I think their best player this year will be Corey Sorrell. I heard he had a great summer and is much improved over last year. He shot almost 50% from 3 point land last year. He could be the player who "puts them over the hump". They will have a strong starting 5, but depth will be a problem.

Exactly! :thumb: Every coach coming into the Holmes game should tell their kids to give him the shot everytime. He can knock down 2 or 3 in a row from time to time but is not consistent enough. You would much rather keep him out there shooting then getting in the lane and killing you where he is best.

Agreed. I saw him this summer and it appears he's growing into his long arms and legs. I'd guess he's 6'1 or 6'2 now.
