They beat everyones darkhorse 35-15 in Jackson. this year. at there bowl game.

When was the last time Mercer won the title? Played in the title game? I've seen many teams come rolling into the playoffs looking like they can't be beat only to have an off night against a battle tested team with losts of play-off experience. Has Mercer been behind this year? The pressure of the one-and-done play-offs often takes a few trips to get used to.

I would worry more about Russell and Belfry than anyone else right now. 3 state championships in the last 3 years. You can't possibly overlook them.

OC is 2-4 right now. Not having a stellar year so far. Russell is 4-1 and Belfry is 5-1 with both teams losses coming from AAA Ashland. Russell is looking at a possible 9-1 season as it stands now. I can't speak for Belfry because I know nothing of their district. But I suspect they will at least go 8-2.

Catholic is not 2-4. I thought they were 3-3. I think the khsaa website was wrong.

Well then I could be wrong. I was just going by the KHSAA website. But still 3-3 is not a stellar record either.

Not that this has alot to do with Mercer's chances. But, somthin to ponder. Ashland beat both Russell and Belfry in hard fought games. Ashland lost to Raceland. You know where I'm going. Raceland got thumped by LCA. Mercer beat LCA 63-0 and pulled their starters mid 3rd qtr. That's the only thing we have for comparison right now. LCA has gotten better but so has Mercer as the season has progressed. But, that wont win the Title. It's who shows up each week in november to give themselves that shot in the first weekend in December. I don't see Mercer losing because they haven't been there before. Sure that makes a big difference. But, Mercer has a multiple ring coaching staff. A big part of this staff came from Danville. We probably have one of the top assistant coaches. So Mercer isn't a deer in the headlights or nothin. My point is they are well coached. But, alot can happen between now and november. Time will tell.

Same here. Mercer left it all on the field last year against Russell. It would be interesting to see how Ivan and Jaggers adjust to what the other is doing. If they play each other in the finals it would have to be one of the better games that weekend. I believe between those two teams they would heat up a cold december day.

3-3 is not stellar, but when your 3 teams win/loss record is 17-2. 2 of the losses were 2 top ten 4-A schools. I think O'Cath plays some good competition then people think. When they got their WR, RB and 2 DT's back it made a difference. I told you when they get in their district and when they get in the playoffs they will make some noise and with key people back it makes a difference.

You know as well as I do that Mercer County should beat Russell, Belfry, Catholic, Newport, or anyother 2-A school by 30 on a bad night. When you have 900 kids in the school and will be 5-A next year you should win. If they don't you need another coach. With Jaggers track record and the success he has had I don't see him losing a game or anyone coming within 30 points of him.

I couldn't agree more!! They should beat everyone handily, but we will have to see come playoff time.

No doubt....Mercer should be the prohibitive favorite in 2A. Second in line should be Russell. After that....It's probably a crap shoot

2. Russell

This is a pretty good list here. I think one of these 4 will win it with maybe Breathitt thrown in there.

Mercer should win it since they are a 4A schools playing in 2A but I don't think they are 30 points better than the top teams.

You can ask anyone from this area, the Ashland team that got beat by Raceland is not the same Ashland team who beat Belfry and Russell. So, you continue to think that if you want but you weren't at any of those games you speak of. I don't think even the Ashland coaches took Raceland serious and thought they could use that game as an experiment. It failed and now they have players in their rightful positions and they are 20 times better than they were that night. I'm not joking, 20 times better. You can think that way if you want but it would be ignorant too.
