What if North and South Laurel combined athletics.

Bad example here... It wasn't so long ago that Laurel Co. High existed. It was NOT a football school (to say the least).

I'm going to say Belfrey, or Mercer.

I go with Belfrey because of tradition, and I'm a big David Jones (UK) fan.

I go with Mercer because of hype, press coverage, and I'm a Jaggers fan.

:ylsuper: :ylsuper:

Right now Mercer is the definite favorite, but I can see Russell winning the Championship. Corbin is always a threat come playoff time.

IMO, Belfry may be a year away. They're very young and still developing. They would have to get a few good breaks along the way. It's possible..but I think Russell and Mercer are the favorites.

Completely disagree with above post. Belfry does have a lot of good young talent but nobody with proven gamebreaking speed. This years team has only1 in Chapman. I'm not sure Belfry will have enough to win a title this year, and next year looks similar.

They might, but they will have to do it without requiring on the big play that has been so critical to recent success.

Well, since Mercer does have the enrollment that takes two buildings to hold them all. And plus they will be playing in 5A next year. And I agree if I were one of the other AA teams I would definitely see this as an unfair advantage.

any team in the top 15

Next year Belfry, Pike Central, East Ridge, Phelps, and Shelby Valley are combining football and basketball but they will go to school on different campuses. They will all be in 1A because it will be called Phelps High School and we all think it is fair.............................

3,000 student enrollment in 1A because its called Phelps........everyone think it is fair?

Well, it's a good thing you will stay in 1A and another good thing is that Danville is moving up to 2A. You could throw in another school and still get thumped if Danville stayed in 1A.

I don't understand why the school's merged if both schools are still being used. Isn't that the point or the merger to combine everyone into one campus/building? Having to drive students back and forth between campuses seems like a major hassle to me?? How would this save the Mercer County School Board any money? Was the merger for athletic reasons?

As for this thread: Russell has to be the favorite. Defending champs with the best player in 2A. Mercer is my #2, they have some firepower but have played a very weak schedule.

A couple Newport students go to Holmes High for a couple classes... maybe they should merge... and just be Newport High in 2A... everyone alright with this?

Reason for "merge" was Mercer is building a new school, and should be ready in 2 years. Harrodsburg's superintendent was retiring this year, Harrodsburg board did not want to hire a new superintendent with the merger in question. Harrodsburg Board of Education voted to merge 4 to 1 now. Mercer Co board then had the option to accept the merger or not. Mercer Board agreed 5-0 to accept. Harrodsburg students get the benefit of addition classes, Mercer gets the property of the old Harrodsburg school system.

As most know in our area know the Mercer-Harrodsburg games were intense, and many thought the merge would have some problems, but I believe the sucess of the football team has really helped the transition.

So the reason for 2 buildings for all you that don't have any idea what is going on, is that Mercer does not have room to house all students in one building, and will not have room for a couple of more years. Shocking but I believe the merge happened for the betterment of education and the chance for all kids in Mercer to enjoy a new school.

Mercer...simple as that with weapons like Corey Jackson and Ford, they are solid. The only team I see putting up a game against them is Russell.

This is not meant to be a shot. If Jackson and Ford are such supermen, then why was Harrodsburg not a threat to win class A last season? Were they not "weapons" a year ago.

Ford, Jackson,Walker,Yeast,Smith and the rest of the Rb for Mercer have great lineman, and everone loves to block......Harrodsburg didnt have that...I dont know why some of the same kids. But im glad ther blocking and playing D now :thumb:

What happended to that saying without blocking you can't run the ball? They both still rushed for a 1,000 yards each and are going to eclipse 1500 each this year. One might even crack 2000. Who knows?

Mercer Co. is the odds on favorite in 2A.
