PLUS, KS has a very good defense against the run which was our main offensive weapon for this game. Based on what I heard, I'll agree that the passing game wasn't great. The recievers let a couple go, and that's obviously not so much Hunter's fault (though he does throw a hard ball).

Cantwell didn't go deep one time in the game...I'd say conservative play calling had something to do with the 24 points.

Petrino said prior to the game that he wanted to establish the run and get the safeties focused on run D before going up top, the run game just never developed quite the way we wanted, a credit to thier defense.

I felt like our guys were blocking well early, but afterwards didn't keep their playmakers out of the play.

 

The exception being our FBs and RBs, who blocked splendidly.

I think it's funny / ironic that every time UL either has a close game versus an inferior opponent, or scores far fewer points than most UL fans predicted, the play calling must have been conservative. What a funny coincidence.

Did you watch the game? If you did, and you watched either the UK or Miami game, it's quite obvious the play calling was a little different.

That day the defense was..can't say that for the offense for the entire game.

He was "scheduled" to be out 3-6 weeks when that injury occurred. That would put him back for that game. I look for him to be back for UC, or the Cuse.

 

I expect him to be back for the WVa game. And, ideally, if he is, it would be nice for him to get to play at least one game before that. I hope you're right. If he's ready to play, I really think U of L wins that game. If not, I'm not so sure.

It's not a coincidence. KSU plays a cover 2, and the play calling becomes more conservative as a result. You don't run a deep fly on the cover 2. Hunter missed his timing against the zone, missed some checks, and some balls were dropped by the receivers; combine that with the fact Louisville had a pass intercepted in the redzone and you come up with a lower score than they could have scored, in my opinion 13-21 points lower.

 

As has been mentioned, until Brohm is back I expect to see a cover 2 played exclusively against us. Until Hunter proves that he can exploit it regularly (Petrino hit the nail on the head when he called him hot and cold) it's an attractive defense because it makes the QB make plays instead of the WRs.

That's what I have been saying all along. Hunter is a great Qb to have as a backup. The problem with a Cover 2 zone, is that when receivers are open, it is only for a short time, then they become covered again. That's part of a fairly young core of receivers learning to "settle" in zones. Brian can recognize when that opening is. Hunter occasionally has to "watch" for it. I did notice, that Hunter's pre snap reads seemed to be much better, which in turn allowed for him to be protected that much more. No worries, UL will see more man 2 man, and Brian will also be back.
