What do you ACTUALLY think happens when we die?

Featured Replies

I could come back as a pigeon, for all I know.

I'm not very well versed on reincarnation, but I don't think you can be the same thing twice.

Now that's funny!

What if there is a God and when you die you discover you chose the wrong one, that it was actually one from one of the other multitude of different world religions? Then instead of a "win-win" it would be a lose-lose.

Just something to ponder. All faiths feel theirs is the correct one.

Yeah I have never actually thought that I may be standing in front of Buddha or Vishnu.

The older I get the less certain I become of the answer to this. I was raised Catholic and have been told my whole life the "answer" to this question, but I now know that nobody has the answer to this question. At the point I am now I feel like it's pointless to speculate because it doesn't change the kind of person I want to be. I'm going to try and be a good person and help as many people as I can along the way. I'd like to think if someone is standing there in judgement when it's all said and done that they will like at least most of what they've seen from me.

I think that this is probably what most Christians would disagree with. Whether "most" is enough.

And that's fine by me. I'm certainly in no position to argue otherwise.

^ The other 20% of me wants to believe it's this.

Why people "believe." People believe what they so want to be true, regardless of how crazy it seems. It happens in all religions, not just Christianity.

Hmmm..... not quite in my opinion. I have loved ones that have passed that I believe are not in heaven. I tears me up inside. I wish I believed differently in those cases. I guess I'm selfish.

Don't worry.

Its better to be safe than sorry motto fits here.

If my soul is accepting and ready, my spirit will join all the others and reside in eternal peace. If it is not, then my spirit will be restless and unresolved...like a bad dream.

I believe every spirit goes to Heaven for lack of another term. I believe some are no happier there than they were on earth...so it is hell to them.

I believe as soon as we die, we are with God. Jesus words to the thief on the cross "today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). I look at the Book of Revelation where John looks up and already the saints who have died are praising God around the throne. In terms of linear time, I can’t work this out.

I won't try to make a theologian out of Einstein, but he did show us that events that happen in sequence can also be events that happen simultaneously. If Einstein can imagine that in terms of physics, theologians can imagine it also in terms of the intrusion of eternity into linear time—that we are both immediately raised and raised together.

Those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will share eternal joy with God in heaven, while those who refuse God's love suffer endless separation from God in hell.

Now as for me there is still much about the afterlife that remains held in the mystery of God that requires simple faith. Simple faith is a misnomer for faith is not simple but called simply to trust God that ultimately we will be in His care, and that His kingdom will come. Whatever happens after death, I live with hope in life eternal and in the assurance that "neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39).

Being raised Catholic, but not a true believer, I do believe in an afterlife. Not the stand at the gates with St Peter kind, but something. I don't believe one guy will be there judging 1000s of individuals daily.

I also believe it could be an eternal purgatory, like the waiting room in Bill and Teds Bogus adventure.

I whole heartedly believe that the concept of the after life was created, by whomever, to make people more comfortable about dying.

Could you imagine if Jesus came to Earth right now? Would people believe it was him or some crazy person saying?

With that said, I could understand why people didn't believe it was him before.
