United Airlines Overbooks Flight, Then Drags Man Off Plane

Featured Replies

Okay, Kingdom Law, Off with their heads!

Perhaps there should be no rules and anytime someone is asked to do something, if they don't want to do it they just need to act like a spoiled child...

That's better.

Several other people left the plane on their own feet... I'm sure they weren't happy about it.

Airlines overbook (or in this case just kick people off planes because according to CNN this was not an overbooking issue) their flights and then the Airlines expect us the customer to sacrifice when the Airlines miscalculate. And that sacrifice includes being bludgeoned if you don't do exactly as you are told.

This is getting better by the minute :lol2:

@USATODAY: United CEO apologizes again after it turns out the controversial flight wasn't even overbooked.

It's their plane isn't it?

It's their plane isn't it?

Yes it is, and they entered into a contract, wanted to change the terms of the contract, and used forced to accomplish the changes they wanted to make.

Did they change the terms if the terms have always said they can remove anyone from a flight?

I'm not quite sure what some of you expected United to do.

They asked him to leave.

They were willing to compensate him for his inconvenience.

He refused and acted like a child.

They called security and let security handle it.

How security handled it is very questionable, but so is how this guy handled it. Is he not culpable also for how he acted? How should security have handled it?

Everyone is always wanting to blame the company, the security, the "whatever". Had this guy simply cooperated, there would have been no issue.

We all see the results of those "terms."

This system is broken. It is completely one sided and one of the many reasons I don't like flying.

Dear @coldweatherfan I am sorry to inform you whatever you had planned today will not take place per the United Global Authority. However, we are going to compensate you $1 for your troubles. Now do exactly as we say or we will beat your behind and drag you off...

Obviously United was being CHEAP. Had they offered more money they would have eventually got all the volunteers they needed.

So the plane wasn't even overbooked? How do they not see they have open seats before asking people to leave?

I hear you, but his way pays a lot better.

And that's why I believe he was flopping for effect.

We all see the results of those "terms."

Completely disagree about it being broken.

On average in the continental United States 1.73 million people fly on planes. Try to figure the logistics of that. How many times do you hear about anything like this?

The percentages of issues are so tiny it can't be measured.

I know being delayed sucks, but weather and all kinds of things come into play. It's just that so many people take it so personally when something happens.

It is one sided not because of the airline companies, but because of the FAA. It is that way for your protection. People lives are potentially in danger.

Between us, MrsC and I fly over 100 legs per year. Other than 10-20 minute delays here and there, 99.9% of the time everything goes off without a hitch. The absolute vast majority of people that work for the TSA, the airlines, and the airports are good people trying to do their job as best as they can.

I do not understand why so many people think flying is so inconvenient. I leave my house at 7:00am, take a 20 minute drive to the Lexington airport, get there an hour and ten minutes before my flight, pass through security, have a beer at the bar, and by 11:00am I am sitting at my favorite beach bar. Life is good.

You're being obtuse and taking this to an extreme. $800 is a pretty nice compensation.

The plane was full, it was not over sold.

Apparently not nice enough for a Doctor, or anyone else on that flight without coercion.
