No one wants this to escalate further. World Wars have started over much smaller incidents than what has already happened in Syria.

 

That's why we hit Syria hard and let them know that we're back to a stance that says "you hit us and we'll hit back a thousand times harder."

 

And that's not about being a bully and pushing people around, it's about saying "this is wrong and we don't put up with it."

 

I believe that's where Obama weakened the country in always being so cautious to take action and letting the US become less than the big kid on the block.

 

Don't get me wrong because everything can't be dealt with using hostility, but this was a drastic and evil move by Syria, so it's time to be the big kid on the block that protects the little kid from the bully.

Russia has done nothing. Russia will do nothing. Destabilizing a country is risky business. Events have a chain reaction effect. That's why Assad is still in power. At this point he is the lesser evil.

The runway wasn't targeted. It appears that the targets were airplanes, weapons cache's etc. Probably left the runway alone in case we decide to use it in the future.

I saw a former Major General in the army who had visted the base in the past comment on this last night. Apparently the base has bunkers heavily fortified that can store some of the planes. It was built this way from years of war with Israel. But still there were a reported 75 planes destroyed.

Destroyed 20 or so jets as well as their weapons cache's among other things. Had we bombed the runway that's much easier to recover from than the loss of the jets and weaponry. I mentioned earlier that we could have left the runway alone in case we need to "use" it at a later date. It's interesting that we left the fuel tankers alone as well.
