As a card-carrying tree-hugger, I hate this.

I have mixed feelings but I believe Technological Advances will eventually be able to overcome/fix the damage we are doing.

I confess, I am appalled that you feel we need do little now, and kick the can down the road.

I said I have mixed feelings. I want America to be prosperous but if I were in charge I would error on the side of caution which means I actually disagree with Trump's decision based solely on the environment.

I really wanted to talk about Tech. I think Tech will solve so many problems for us in the future and certainly has the potential to solve this one.

I am not 100% on board with the climate change agenda. While some tout there is lots of evidence, I think a much longer span is required to understand this. Now if we did a study and knew all the records from 0 AD to now we might get a good read, but in the scope of time we are dealing with this could be nothing. I can find reports that support both sides. It appears the side that is screaming climate change are making a knee jerk reaction based solely on what people speculate at best not 100% conclusive data.

I'm not sure if I am an anomole, but I remember talking about climate change and environmental issues when I was in high school. I graduated in 1984. I'm not sure how much longer we need to keep talking and delaying action.

I am not saying this is right or wrong. Just saying at this point I am not convinced true data can provide proof that this is happening. Many different weather patterns over the course of time would have caused scientists heads to explode if they had the same technology as we do today. And what would that have proven looking back? Thats my point. You could be right in what you say, I just need more data to support it and thats not gonna happen during my lifetime.

Still waiting for Algore and his flock to phase out their internal combustion engine fleets, and install sails on their cars/SUV's/limos.

Whether a person agrees with climate change or not I do think we all can agree that the entire planet has and will continue to do irreparable damage to the planet. It's not natural for people in some places in China to have to wear masks just to walk down the street.

I agree we did talk about it back then. We talked about global cooling and the coming ice age that would possibly cover all of North America by 2000 :lol2:

Cooling, warming, cooling, warming...seems like there has been an on going cycle in the scientific world as to what is going on for my entire life.

Doesn't affect us here, so most people don't feel it's an issue that needs to be dealt with.

Unfortunately no law we pass here will change what China is doing. That doesn't mean we do nothing, just saying there are corners of the world that will never follow the rules if they are more restrictive or expensive to do. I know the US can bring some pressure to bear on some countries but China for instance will do what they want to do. Hopefully Beijing and other cities that are covered in smog and remind us of L.A. and New York when we were young, will rebound the way those cities have and reduce pollutants in the air for their citizens. China in many many ways is 3 or 4 decades behind the US, hopefully they catch up sooner rather than later.

On the other hand, rolling back our regulations and lack of vigilance and progress is a path to returning to the smog filled days of the past. It is prudent to keep pushing forward. What we do makes a difference even though China and India are behind.
