Song and Association

Featured Replies

I was thinking of the many times I hear a song and go to an association. We all do it.

SOme songs I can tell you exactly where I was when I heard it once. Or I will associate a song with a person.

Does anyone associate a song with a day of the week? I don't mean Feb 27th or July 4th. I mean Saturday. Or Tuesday.

I have some songs that I fully associate with Saturday mornings. Anyone else do that?

This is my Saturday Morning All-Time Jam...it always makes me think of Saturdays when I was a kid...

Do you mean like "1st of tha month" by Bone Thugs? Or "Another Saturday Night" by Sam Cooke??

Personally, I tend to associate songs with people rather than days of the week.

No. I mean I hear a song and think "ahh, I remember Saturday mornings listening to that one once."

I guess I should've added a smiley, huh? :p

Outside of Hymns the song that I most think of Sunday mornings is "Sunday Morning Coming Down", that song is so epically lonely if you listen to the words and what is being said. I know from when I was younger, Sunday morning is the loneliest time of the week.

It is weird while doing brain research for my job how this phenomenon is attached to emotions and it can be good or bad emotions. Unless it was really bad our brain washes it away, but our brainstorms a lot more feel good emotions, thus the reason we think are younger days were better than today when in reality the generally are not. Our brain keeps the good and discards the bad, unless really bad almost tragic.

But there many songs I associate with stuff. Heart of Gold by Neil Young while cruising around Jerry's in Okolona in high school. Dancing to Black Water by the Doobie Brothers at the frat house. Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack while watching the submarine races at McNeely Lake with Melvina (yes, her name, and she was hot).

Many times when I would head out to Cumberland Falls on the weekend, I would put some Chicago in the cassette player and inevitably I would be jamming to "Saturday in the Park." Even when I was listening to the radio, it seems like that tune would be played most Saturdays. So, I came to associate that song with Saturday.

Many times I've used the line from Suite For Judy blue eyes, "Tuesday morning, please be gone I'm tired of you".

"Rainy Days & Mondays" with Mondays, of course.

"Rainy Days & Mondays" with Mondays, of course.

As if rainy Mondays needed to be any more depressing , that song, while beautiful, causes me to ponder the sad and lonely life of Miss Carpenter that was cut way too short by her anorexia.

I associate "It Was a Good Day" by Ice Cube with Saturday until the very end when he "wakes up" and it's actually Monday morning.

"All My Rowdy Friends" Monday. (Hank Jr.)

"Monday Monday" (Momas and the Papas)

"Manic Monday" (Bangles)

"Tuesday Afternoon" (Moody Blues)

"Thank God It's Friday" (Love and Kisses)

I'm assuming that you weren't just looking for tunes with names of days in them, but more so songs that, day name or not, just makes one associate it with a certain day of the week, yet I can't pass up posting this one.
