Collins 65 Elliott County 57 F/OT (KHSAA Sweet 16 First Round)

Featured Replies

Final.

Great game!

Elliot County with three fouls to give under a minute fails to utililize them and let's one get away.

Too bad, they obviously outplayed the athletically superior Titans, who certainty didn't deserve to win.

Elliott Co. was much better than I expected. Weak 16th was represented very favorably tonight. Cohran was a beast on both ends.

First close one we got! & we got Overtime! Porter went for 21 Points for Elliott County, Spencer added 19 & 8 Boards before fouling out late, Evans also added 13 & 7 Boards for EC. Collins was lead by Cochran who had 23 Points & 13 Boards for a Double-Double, & Fort who had 17 & 7 Boards, McKnight added 12 Points, 8 Assists, & 7 Boards for a solid night, & Turner added 10 Points & 9 Boards for Collins.

I should have known better than to pick Elliott in this one. Lesson learned.

Congrats Collins!

How do you figure?

How do you figure?

Elliot grossly mismanaged time and circumstace.

With three fouls to give they had ample opportunity to foul the shooter long before he became a shooter and hit the FTs that sent the game to OT.

They allowed Elliot to stick around and pretty much underachieved for 32 minutes.

You might wanna check the game stats before claiming EC outplayed Collins. The stats don't support that theory at all.

And while I agree that Elliott probably didn't utilize their fouls down the stretch, that in no way means Collins didn't deserve to win.

Sounds like sour grapes when you say it like that.

Elliott had the game in the palm of their hand when they led by 1 with about a minute left in regulation and simply had to run their sets to kill clock and either get an easy back door or eventually get fouled. But for some reason one of their guards (not Spencer) penetrated down the right baseline and attempted a difficult shot in traffic that I think was partially blocked. So instead of maybe going to the line with foul shots and a 1 point lead they gave the ball away to Collins. And the end result was the game went into OT and the Lions lost.

That play was a mistake. Why force a bad shot with a high degree of difficulty when you're up 1 with very little time remaining??????

...Titans, who certainty didn't deserve to win.

Ouch, little harsh there Mustang. Granted, Collins struggled against a team that, once both teams took the floor I thought they would handle fairly easily. They didn't play great and did not exploit their inside advantage in the first half the way they should have I thought. Once Collins decided to go inside early in the 2nd half the Lions started packing it waaaaaaaay back in the lane and Collins couldn't make a jumper. They were playing so far off McKnight his defender could have had Ebola and he would have had no worries about contracting it. And for 3 quarters the freshman pg McKnight played like...well...a freshman under the intense spotlight of the sweet 16. He played much better in the 4th though and was a big factor in Collins taking it to overtime. Collins played very tight I thought, which some teams are prone to do when they get to Rupp.
